About us

Tinker Ma is a Chattanooga architecture and design firm stewarding sustainable community enhancement through creativity, professional leadership, and technical expertise. Architecture is complex, but our process is simple: we take an idea from our client, breathe life and art into it, and then express that idea out to the world. We are passionate about bringing compelling ideas to life to invigorate communities and help them grow. Our job is to learn the fundamental “why” of every client and use the existing environment to create an open, shared and sustainable narrative. Through revitalization, communities thrive, and legacies are built. Partners, Thomas Palmer, Craig Peavy, Jessica Stack, and Trey Wheeler lead a team of 18. Our collective portfolio encompasses a broad range of project types and users, including: hospitality; urban design and placemaking; education; healthcare; multi-family housing; food and beverage; state and local government; retail and entertainment; technical and industrial; and custom, single-family residential projects.

  • This week, we celebrated the successful completion of the historic renovation of the Fort Payne Police Station. Originally built in the 1940s, this building served as City Hall for several decades before being repurposed as the Police Department. The renovations have thoughtfully upgraded the facility to meet the needs of today’s law enforcement. This project demonstrates the City of Fort Payne's commitment to preserving its heritage while investing in the future of public safety. We are proud to have partnered with the city to design a facility that will provide a safe and reliable space for the police department and emergency services for many years to come.   ______ Project Team Client - The City of Fort Payne Architecture & Interiors – Tinker Ma, LLC (Craig Peavy, Vanessa Vereschak, Desaree Frost) Structural – Brooks & Associates Consulting Engineers (BACE) MEP/FP - Advanced Energy Engineering & Design Security – R&N Systems Design Bullet Resistant Wall Assembly – Kontek Industries

  • Tinker Ma had a fantastic time participating in Park(ing) Day! Park(ing) is a one-day global event where people around the world temporarily reclaim street parking and transform public spaces into tiny parks and places for art, play, and activism. The Chattanooga Design Studio organized the local participation in downtown Chattanooga, and Craig Peavy, Jewell Anderson, Zachary Standley, AIA, NCARB, Andrew Edwards, Alexa Ocampo, and Crosby Wheeler proudly represented Tinker Ma.  They created an interactive and communal workspace to allow Chattanoogans to be productive outside while experiencing the natural surroundings of our city. Their effort won the award for "Best Use of Space,” and our parklet will be set up at Common House in the future. Thank you Chattanooga Design Studio and Chattanooga Parking Authority for an incredible event! Photography credit: Zachary Standley, AIA, NCARB

  • Tinker Ma is busy preparing a 3D model for the Civic Center Study Area in Downtown Chattanooga.  It will be utilized at the public design charrette hosted by Chattanooga Design Studio at the Downtown Public Library this Monday. The model illustrates the massing and scale of 183 structures in our downtown core. It provides a tangible resource to help participants visualize, explore, and communicate design options for our civic district. We will utilize the model and additional geometric forms for prepared interactive activities relevant to the Downtown.     The model was 3D printed in-house by Ava Peavy, Andrew Edwards, and Zachary Standley, AIA, NCARB using a resin printer. The site was fabricated by FALA Design Studio and accurately depicts the topography and urban fabric of our city.    The public design charrette will take place on Monday, August 12th from 4-6 pm on the fourth floor of the Downtown Public Library. We would love for you to come and share your vision for Chattanooga's Civic Center with us and the entire team Sasaki, Erika Roberts, and James Lima Planning + Development.    Visit the CDS website to register for the event.

  • Today we joyously celebrated at the ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of Siskin Hospital’s Healing Gardens! The gardens provide a place for rehabilitation and respite, allowing people to connect with the outdoors and find healing and solace in nature. Our design inspiration for the Clarence E. Harris Pavilion came from a collection of trees. Reflecting Siskin’s roots in the steel industry, the structure is made of steel and wrapped in a leaf-patterned screen, providing a serene environment and uninterrupted views of the garden. The pathway that meanders through the entire garden is made from a variety of materials, enabling individuals who are relearning to walk to practice on different surfaces. Matthew Gibson described the gardens as “a place where people can put their hands in the soil, hear the birds, sing, and draw inspiration from the flowers and beautiful works of art – a space where people can heal outside with the sun on their faces and the wind in their hair.” We are grateful for the immense generosity of remarkable donors, the esteemed leadership of Siskin Hospital, and the collaborative efforts of the entire project team that brought this vision to life.
