A good report from our friends at Freddie Mac that looks at Housing Choice Voucher usage based on geography of high-income and low-income areas. Although there can be significant variations by market, voucher use in high opportunity areas ... places that offer residents a high degree of upward economic mobility, have higher income, lower poverty, high-rated schools, and greater-than-average access to public transportation and job opportunities ... remains limited when compared with areas of concentrated poverty. Housing Choice Vouchers are about CHOICE, but many barriers still exist as highlighted by this report, especially when trying to live in an area of opportunity! #housingchoice #areasofopportunity #affordablehousing https://lnkd.in/grvATxvT

A longer post but a good one about two great Thistle ROC Gatherings ... Thistle ROC hosted the first inaugural hybrid ROC Learning Conference for the ROC Boards of Directors & ROC residents over the past month. The inaugural conference included two hybrid learning sessions on the topics of Horizontal Leadership in Cooperatives, as well as a session on Climate Hazard Mitigation and Preparedness in Manufactured Home Communities led by a panel of climate hazard mitigation experts. This past weekend, Thistle ROC had the pleasure of hosting over 30 participants from ROCs throughout the state of Colorado for the in-person component of the conference. These ROC Board Members attended a networking event and awards dinner recognizing the great work being done with ROCs in Colorado, joined the in-person learning sessions hosted by ROC USA leaders, Thistle staff, the Colorado Poverty Law Project, and a representative from the Mobile Home Park Oversight Program (MHPOP). Attendees also participated in a tour of the Golden Hills community where they learned about the acquisition of the Golden Hills community and about exciting climate resiliency projects happening in the community in conjunction with Colorado School of Mines. The conference provided an opportunity for ROC leaders to meet members of different ROCs from around the state, building a support network among ROC Residents. Thistle ROC is hopeful that the learning sessions also inspired Colorado ROC leaders to take new ideas back to their communities to encourage continued improvement and resiliency in the journey of resident ownership! #affordablehomeownership #cooperatives #cooperativehousing

We're so happy to be a part of this! Thanks ROC USA, Thistle ROC, and all partners that help with resident ownership of mobile home parks! "Currently, 22 states have laws requiring or encouraging owners of manufactured home parks to give homeowners the opportunity to purchase their land collectively. Those laws can vary wildly, with some requiring that the residents be given the right of first refusal, while others simply require park owners to provide notice of their intent to sell." These laws & notices can give residents a fighting chance to own their park, and own their destiny! #residentownership #mobilehomeparks #affordablehousing https://lnkd.in/e9VU9mx4

Their global network collaborates to inspire generosity around the world, with a common mission to build a world where generosity is part of everyday life. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give. At Thistle Community Housing, you can help support us here ... https://lnkd.in/gXcM568S. #givingtuesday #affordablehousing

New research from the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition reveals the average rents for Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) homes are 38% lower than market-rate rents across 80 of the largest metro areas, an average savings of $653 per month when compared to market rate, an average annual savings of over $7,800 per lower-income household. While it would be great to see more affordable mixed-income communities vs. all lower-income properties, certainly no denying these savings which give individuals and families extra money for life's other necessities like transportation, health, insurance, etc. #affordablehousing #lihtc

Great story on our La Luna Community Cooperative which couldn't be a reality this past year without great partners, and ... great residents!! "Organizations ROC USA and Thistle Community Housing (both are Colorado Trust grantees) guided the La Luna residents through the process and helped them secure the needed funding to become a resident-owned community. The contributions included funding from the City of Lafayette, Colorado, Boulder County, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs and ROC USA." And of course, The Colorado Trust! Thank you!! https://lnkd.in/gjSjFJf6
