United Way of Greater Waterbury Addresses Shelter Crisis WATERBURY, CT – United Way of Greater Waterbury is working with proven partners to increase shelter resources so that no one needs to face the severe health risks of sleeping outside this winter. “Our goal is to open the Center for Human Development (CHD) Hospitality Center 24/7 through March.” Jered Bruzas, chief impact officer with United Way announced, “In addition to United Way of Greater Waterbury’s $20,000 commitment, the City of Waterbury-Mayor's Office recently pledged $20,000, along with a $20,000 commitment from The Housing Collective.” Currently, the center is only available during daytime hours unless the governor of Connecticut activates the state’s cold weather protocol. “It is just as life-threatening to sleep outside when the temperature is 25 degrees as when it is zero or below,” Mr. Bruzas explained. “Unfortunately, funding is stretched as we face an unpredicted rise in the number of people experiencing homelessness.” The Center for Human Development (CHD) Hospitality Center is located at 690 East Main Street, Waterbury CT. https://lnkd.in/edKRQewh Anne Karolyi Republican-American
