Almost exactly one year ago, I was buzzing that a video of my MF DOOM mosaic racked up more than 1.3 million views on TikTok. Today, I said goodbye to it - along with a mosaic of Jay-Z made from Yankees caps - as they were picked up to be shipped to their new home in The Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx, New York. The museum is preserving more than 50 years of hip hop culture and artwork right in the epicentre of the movement, and I'm looking forward to visiting when it opens next year. I'm delighted to be able to play some small part in this project. Special thanks to Adam Silverstein and SenYon Kelly for making this happen. 🎶Concrete jungle where dreams are made of🎶

As we go into the weekend and "Giving Tuesday," I am asking you to consider donating $50 to The Hip Hop Museum. Why is this important? We need a designated location to keep our history alive and to make sure future generations understand where it came from and how it evolved. Our museum will be a space to learn about the culture’s roots and its journey from the streets of the Bronx to a global movement. The fact: Hip Hop is more than just music; it’s a reflection of the struggles and triumphs of marginalized communities. A museum gives context to the culture, showing how it’s been a voice for social change, from addressing racial inequality to urban life. It helps people see how Hip Hop has impacted both art and society. For younger generations, this museum will be a chance to dive deep into the origins and development of Hip Hop. It’s also going to be a place to learn about the pioneers, like Grandmaster Flash, DJ Hollywood, MC Debbie D, Sha Rock, and Grandmaster Theodore, and the craft of DJing, rapping, breakdancing, and graffiti. It is a chance for our history, that looks like us, feels like us, sounds like us, to be heard. I am asking... please... instead of going out to eat one day this week... invest in this piece of legacy that will be a testament of one of the most influential movements since invention of rock and roll (by the way, both created by people that look like us).

A three-dimensional model is a critical tool for understanding the intricacies of interior exhibit design and construction. This physical representation offers a tangible, bird’s-eye view of the spatial layout, allowing design teams to visualize how visitors will interact with the museum's spaces. It enables precise planning for exhibit placements, visitor flow, and the integration of technology and storytelling elements. For The Hip Hop Museum, the use of this model reflects the design team's commitment to creating a world-class museum experience. The model highlights the challenges of balancing aesthetics, functionality, and storytelling within the constraints of the physical space. By rising to the occasion, the museum's design team has successfully translated abstract ideas into a cohesive vision that honors Hip Hop's rich legacy while embracing cutting-edge design principles. As interior construction begins in 2025, this model serves as a foundation for collaboration between architects, curators, and construction teams. It ensures that every detail—down to the placement of exhibits and visitor accessibility—is carefully planned to deliver an immersive and impactful experience. The Hip Hop Museum is poised to set a new standard for cultural institutions, showcasing its story in an innovative and dynamic way.
