As 2024 ends, we’re celebrating the incredible impact we’ve made together. This year, your generosity helped Women’s Foundation California distribute nearly $4 million, empowering communities and fueling transformative change. But transformation isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement that requires bold visions and lasting commitment. Donate before midnight to power this work in 2025 and beyond. This is not just about giving—it’s about stepping into our power, hand in hand, as part of a collective that refuses to accept the world as it is. Link to donate: https://lnkd.in/gyfnkrpe

We invest in, train, and connect community leaders to advance gender, racial and economic justice.
About us
Women’s Foundation California is a statewide public foundation dedicated to achieving gender, racial, and economic justice by centering the experience and expertise of communities most impacted by systemic injustice. We work to invest in, train, and connect community leaders to advance gender, racial, and economic justice. We do this by providing grants to small community-led organizations, training community leaders through the Women’s Policy Institute, and fostering a community of advocates, donors, policymakers, grantmakers, academics and many others through convenings to share knowledge and strengthen the social justice movement in California. Unlike private foundations, which are endowed with funds from a family’s wealth or corporate earnings, community foundations gather their financial contributions from the public — from individuals, families, and businesses who want to support social change. As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reminded of the power of community and the importance of investing in building a feminist future. This year, we created spaces for changemakers, supported survivors, and redistributed nearly $4 million to grassroots organizations driving justice across California. Change isn’t a moment—it’s a movement, rooted in love, dignity, and liberation. Join us by donating to power this work into 2025 and beyond. https://lnkd.in/gYNiFKnH

Local policy is where dreams of liberation become reality–block by block, policy by policy. That’s why we're so excited to relaunch the Solís Policy Institute (SPI) Local program, starting with a Los Angeles cohort. For over 20 years, SPI has trained nearly 700 fellows to navigate the complexities of policy-making with clarity, courage, and community at the heart of their work. Save the date and join us on January 30th in Los Angeles to celebrate this reimagined program at our Local Power for Lasting Liberation: Growing the Leadership Pipeline for a Multiracial Feminist Future event. We can’t wait to grow our local power together! Stay tuned for more details, link here: https://lnkd.in/gzp9yKs3

We’re excited to introduce our Theory of the Future, a bold, intersectional framework that shapes a future where everyone thrives. This framework is a blueprint for action that is as bold as it is grounded. The work is urgent. Climate justice, reproductive freedom, and economic equity are non-negotiable. But in the face of these challenges, we find alegría (deep joy) in our collective power, a renewed sense of purpose, and the unshakeable belief that belonging is not just a destination—it’s the path forward. We invite you to explore this vision and join us in shaping it! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gXH5EUCQ

Meet the Criminal Justice Reform Team, a part of the 2024-2025 Solís Policy Institute State Cohort working to make change across the state! The team is primarily focusing on addressing oppressive impacts that the justice system has on the lives of Californians, and is moving the needle forward to create the feminist future we dream of by conducting policy research, drafting bills, and connecting with legislators. We’re so excited to see what this group of changemakers will accomplish. Stay tuned for updates on their journey, progress, and signed bills! Learn more about SPI here: https://lnkd.in/gxjvGiUS

This September, we partnered with Jasmine Rashid for Financial Activism 101, a transformative series that redefined how we think about money and its power to drive justice. With the holiday season upon us, it’s easy to feel the pressure of mass consumerism, but Jasmine is helping us understand how we can reshape systems and drive change with our dollar. Through being vocal about the companies we’re refusing to support, buying from small business and local creatives, and redirecting our funds that would have otherwise gone to large corporations to nonprofits, we can align our resources with our values. Comment on how you are working to avoid mass consumerism this holiday season! * * * Jasmine Rashid remake.world Slow Factory

California’s housing crisis and the epidemic of gender-based violence are deeply connected, and our Housing Opportunities Mean Everything (HOME) Cohort addresses these intertwined challenges by convening changemakers to find creative solutions to these pressing issues. Built to drive systemic change, the cohort has achieved victories like passing SB1017, SB914, and SB567, protecting survivors from eviction and increasing access to safe housing. By prioritizing survivors’ voices, fostering impactful partnerships, and tackling root causes, the HOME Cohort is transforming how we address housing insecurity and gender-based violence. As the year ends, we invite you to support this mission–your contributions fuel the fight for survivor-centered policies and equity. Read our blogpost here: https://lnkd.in/gaitCB5R

The holiday season is upon us and so is the pressure to take part in mass consumerism. This is a friendly reminder that the small things we do together and for each other matter. This year we hope you’ll use your wallet to support businesses owned by women of color and gender-expansive folks. Shop our 2024 Feminist Gift Guide for thoughtful items that directly fund racial, economic, and gender justice. These aren’t just gifts—they’re acts of solidarity. Let’s invest in change together! Calling all youth artists! We’re seeking submissions from the Women’s Foundation California Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) community and beyond! We’re looking for original artwork to be featured in an upcoming box set of greeting cards. Especially in times of injustice, art is a powerful tool to inspire change and to speak truth. Whether you’re a painter, photographer, poet, or collage artist, your creativity has the power to inspire hope, spark the fire of revolution, and reimagine our world. We encourage you to submit your creations for this special project, and look forward to seeing your submission. We encourage multiple submissions—each accepted piece will earn $200. Deadline to submit is January 18th, 2025 We can’t wait to see your creativity and celebrate your talents with our community. Link to submit your artwork: https://lnkd.in/gzRXCQ_K

As the year closes, this is where we stand: in a circle of shared power, fortified by each other and the belief that a better world isn’t just possible—it’s already being built, in spaces like ours. This year, we facilitated transformative conversations on liberation, power, and hope, from exploring California’s blueprint for justice to reclaiming our financial narratives and fighting for abortion access. We celebrated profound victories, including three new California laws championed by our Solís Policy Institute fellows and nurtured future leaders at our Summer Leadership Institute. As we look ahead, we recognize that the future we’re fighting to create demands more from us–radical solidarity, stubborn hope, and the resources to fund liberation. We are the antidote to fear, and together we can prove that a better, safe, more just future is possible. Read more on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gVstY-Fa
