About us
The Sedona Conference (TSC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, intellectual property rights, and data security and privacy law. TSC was founded in 1997 by Richard G. Braman, who practiced in the areas of antitrust law, intellectual property, and complex litigation. TSC succeeds through the generous contributions of time by its faculties and Working Group members, and is able to fund its operations primarily through the financial support of its members, conference registrants, and sponsors. No list of predictions of “What to Expect in 2025: AI Legal Tech and Regulations” would be complete without input from Sedona Conference members. The National Law Review’s 2025 forecast includes words of wisdom from the Hon. Allison Goddard, Paul H. McVoy, David Moncure, Dean Pelletier, Danny Tobey, M.D., J.D., and Sedona executive director Kenneth Withers, among other legal luminaries: https://bit.ly/4flKvvZ. Many of these industry leaders will be helping lead the dialogue at the inaugural meeting of The Sedona Conference Working Group 13 on Artificial Intelligence and the Law, on January 16-17 in Phoenix. You can add your voice to the dialogue and help shape the Working Group’s mission – our agenda and registration information is available here: https://lnkd.in/g2hHneXR.

We loved this interview with Jonathan (Jon) Palmer, Microsoft's general counsel, who offers up some sage wisdom on leadership, life experience, and the need to keep learning and growing. P.S., he's also looking forward to incipient regulation around artificial intelligence: “We're under no illusion. We want regulation. We don't think the world should just leave it to tech companies to figure this out for themselves and act responsible. We think there's definitely a role, there has to be a role for the government to regulate, but it will trail a little bit. And in that intervening time, companies have to act responsibly and help develop the norms that ultimately will bind us.” We are thankful for Jon's strong support for Sedona's Working Group Series over the years and Microsoft's participation in the new Working Group 13 on AI and the Law. https://lnkd.in/eKi9kf9v.

Are Large Language Models (LLMs) new clothes for eDiscovery. Here's what Maura R. Grossman, Gordon V Cormack, and Jason R. Baron have to say on the matter: https://lnkd.in/gy8MbgZc
Any meaningful discussion of "Responsible AI" must start with its validation. And no better starting point than its decades-long application--via GenAI's precursor Machine Learning--in litigation eDiscovery. See guest article by Maura R. Grossman, Gordon V Cormack, and Jason R. Baron on "Does the LLMperor Have New Clothes? Some Thoughts on the Use of LLMs in eDiscovery." And pls weigh in (via the green comment bubbles) and join the Sedona Conference's Working Group 13 on AI Law dialogue! https://lnkd.in/gGkfKeYu

So much to talk about on the topic of AI and the Law. Executive director Kenneth Withers and Jim W. Ko discuss several of the key issues to be considered by Sedona's new Working Group 13, which will hold its inaugural meeting on Jan. 16-17 in Phoenix. https://lnkd.in/gmhY-tWP
See my discussion with Ken Withers, Executive Director of The Sedona Conference about the upcoming launch of Working Group 13 on AI Law in January. There is no organization with more expertise in the diverse subject areas underlying AI law than Sedona. And there has never been a greater need for Sedona's consensus, nonpartisan approach than here and now. Come join the dialogue! https://lnkd.in/gB-v2kWP
