About us
The Reinforced Earth Company USA (RECo USA) is a civil engineering design company and supplier of materials for retaining walls, arches, sound walls, and related structures. We are recognized as the inventor of modern Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining walls, patented under the name Reinforced Earth®. Operating as a separate entity in the United States since 1971, we are affiliated with the global group Terre Armée. Our portfolio of engineered solutions has expanded to include several variations of permanent and temporary MSE retaining walls, precast modular retaining walls, arch bridges and tunnels, sound walls, traffic barriers, and other structures designed uniquely for many applications. In 2018 we proudly added T-WALL®, the proven retaining wall system that has been a staple in the highway and railway construction industries for decades. We are engineers, manufacturers, construction managers, and team players.

Can you imagine our roads, highways, and infrastructure without MSE walls? Henri Vidal, the inventor of modern Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall technology, revolutionized the construction industry with his groundbreaking innovation. 45 years ago today, the city of Austin designated December 13 as Henri Vidal Day to honor his contributions. It all began with Woodhollow Dam in Austin—the first dam in the U.S. built using Reinforced Earth®. We couldn't do what we do without Henri Vidal's vision and legacy. Cheers to the pioneer who built the foundation for so much of the world we rely on today! #BuildBetterTogether

Our December calendar photo showcases a Reinforced Earth® wall in Sandy, UT. Spanning 6,500 square feet, the wall features rectangular panels with a fractured fin texture. It provides grade separation between Quimbley's Toys & Games and John Paras Furniture. #BuildBetterTogether

In 2004, the Reinforced Earth UK & Nordics team delivered 20m high avalanche defenses in Seyðisfjörður and Ísafjörður, Iceland, featuring steep reinforced slopes and breaking mounds to redirect avalanche paths. #BuildBetterTogether
Avalanche Defences in Seyðisfjörður & Ísafjörður, Iceland 🏔️ In 2004, we designed and supplied avalanche defences in Seyðisfjörður and Ísafjörður, Iceland. These defences included a 20m high catching earth dam located 600m above sea level, along with breaking mounds to divert avalanche paths. Each dam featured a steep upper half, reinforced with galvanized steel mesh and high adherence strips, achieving slope angles over 76°. The lower half consisted of rock fill materials at 34°. Lightweight components were shipped to Iceland, and the project was completed before the first snowfall. We were selected for our proven speed, robustness, and successful applications in similar projects. #50yearsofReinforcedEarth #AvalancheDefence #ReinforcedEarth #Iceland #GeotechnicalEngineering #SustainableInfrastructure #SnowSafety

Photos from the field: Progress is taking shape on the U.S. 31 Overpass Project near Plymouth, Indiana! This INDOT project will eliminate the at-grade crossing with the Elkhart Western Railroad, improving safety and keeping traffic flowing smoothly. We're proud to contribute to this effort with over 60,000 SF of Reinforced Earth® MSE walls and over 30,000 SF of temporary wire walls for phase construction — key elements supporting the construction of two bridges that will carry U.S. 31 safely over the tracks. #BuildBetterTogether
