Here's the recap from the LIFT Ev'ry HTX kickoff hosted by Calota and Tracie Jae.
What a way to kick off #WomensHistoryMonth! This year's theme is “Women who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” Thank you to everyone who joined Calota and me on Friday evening at The Gite Gallery for the official launch of #LIFTEvryHTX - an organization committed to connection, collaboration and community for those in the equity and justice trenches. The work is sometimes heavy, but much lighter when we carry it together. It was a delight to share space with humans who care deeply for other humans; and to give them their flowers. Special shout outs to: E.T. our photographer, DJ Alchemy, and Frederick Goodall. Extra special shout out to 18 year old Chris, who found the event through the Meetup platform and, because he wants to work in #DEI, decided to have his sister bring him to join us. Our next gathering is April 4th. We're visiting the #Multiplicity exhibit at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Here's the link to register - https://lnkd.in/gs75f6az.

What would it look like in your organization if you put LOVE first and were actively HUMAN in your approach? Let's talk about it. https://lnkd.in/gZ_vbBfa
The common practice is to attack acronyms, phrases or practices that folks don't understand. People calling for the end of CRT, BLM, DEI and being "woke" often cannot even explain what those things are. The ideas are "foreign" so they would rather not even examine them; worse, folks who do not understand these concepts rush to label them as "reverse discrimination" and anti-American. I appreciate Joe Berkowitz's attempt at dissecting the challenges facing "DEI". https://lnkd.in/gAR7Pq2W **In my work, I use acronyms that might be hard to argue with: LOVE and HUMAN. If you want more information about what that might look like in your organization, please reach out. I'd love to discuss both with you.
The current DEI backlash is both cynical and naive

Our first client visit of 2024 was The Rise School of Houston. We shared an updated version of the 2 hour Beyond Bias workshop which provides an opportunity for staff members to share in a 100 Voices style conversation and engage in a discussion about difference, power, privilege and HUMAN Centered Equity. Tracie Jae is looking forward to returning to their next staff in-service in February.
