  • Exploring COPA: A Hub for the Arts and Community on Madison’s South Side pt. 2 A Vision for Arts Access and Community Connection What sets COPA apart is its mission: to provide access to space, equipment, and a supportive community for artists of all kinds. Whether it’s musicians, actors, visual artists, or filmmakers, COPA aims to be a place where creators can thrive. The journey is fueled by a genuine love for the arts and a desire to create opportunities for the community to engage with creativity. From music industry nights to youth programs and local collaborations, COPA is already laying the groundwork for a future that bridges talent and community. This project is a bold and ambitious undertaking, and I couldn’t be more inspired by the dedication and talent behind it. Dale’s extensive network and vision, combined with the efforts of passionate creatives like Naomi, are shaping COPA into a space where everyone in the community can gather, create, and grow. Let’s support this incredible vision for the arts on Madison’s south side. Check out COPA’s website (copamadison.org) to learn more, and stay tuned for updates as this exciting project continues to grow! If you love the arts or know someone who does, consider sharing this post to spread the word about COPA Madison. This is a community-driven dream, and together, we can help make it a reality!

  • Exploring COPA: A Hub for the Arts and Community on Madison’s South Side pt. 1 Recently, I had the privilege of visiting COPA Madison (Community Organizations Promoting the Arts), nestled off Fitchachery Rd between Fitchburg and Madison. COPA is not just a space for the arts—it’s a vision for a future where creativity, collaboration, and community come together. It’s also home to Git Gub, an inspiring arts organization led by the talented Naomi Rothblatt-Shumway. During my visit, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Naomi and Dale Sticha, the founder of COPA, to talk about their ambitious vision for the space. Dale, whose impressive 31-year career includes touring as Elton John’s piano technician, brings a genuine passion for the arts and a deep commitment to community to this project. While COPA currently operates out of a modest space, the future is nothing short of extraordinary. Dale and his team envision transforming the current 5-acre property into a state-of-the-art $65 million arts hub. This dream includes spaces for live music, theater, visual arts, and community events—making COPA the heart of Madison’s south-side arts scene.
