The Maryland School for the Blind

“We as a society need to build teams that have a diversity of perspectives.” — Learning Undefeated Chief Marketing Officer Janeé Pelletier. During a recent visit to The Maryland School for the Blind in Baltimore, our instructors combined STEM and storytelling to bring fun and engaging activities to students throughout the week. After reading story books printed in Braille, students got to work constructing items like chairs and wheelchairs for Goldilocks to sit on, along with designing artificial pollinators. Since students who participated in these activities were either blind, visually impaired, or had low vision, we provided Velcro, colorful pompoms, foam, wooden cubes and construction paper for the projects. We'd like to thank The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation for their support of this visit as well as nine additional Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Library Project. Celebrating Dr. Hoover and the Legacy of the White Cane Technique at MSB! 🧑🦯 On October 15th, we celebrated White Cane Day on campus with fun activities, giving our students a chance to exercise awareness and safety while using their canes. Did you know that Dr. Richard Hoover, a former Maryland School for the Blind employee, pioneered the "Hoover Cane Technique"? This revolutionary technique has empowered people who are blind and low vision around the world to navigate independently. As we continue to raise awareness during Blindness Awareness Month, we honor Dr. Hoover's lasting legacy and his incredible impact. #WhiteCaneDay #BlindnessAwarenessMonth #Accessibility
