  • Every family experiences changes. Some are planned, others are unexpected. Some are joyful, others are marked by pain or uncertainty. For young children, even small changes can feel monumental, and how adults talk with them affects how they respond and cope. In this syndicated article, Dr. Lauren Loquasto, our chief academic officer, provides guidance to help families navigate changes. As Dr. Loquasto shares, approaching changes with empathy, proactive communication and an open heart helps children feel more secure and confident to move forward. For a deeper dive into the topic, check out a recent Parenting with Goddard webinar featuring Dr. Loquasto: https://lnkd.in/g8fPRytY.

  • As families across the country gather for Thanksgiving, there’s no better time to teach young children about gratitude. Gratitude is the foundation for happiness, resilience, and empathy. It helps children appreciate the good things in their lives, even the small ones. When children are grateful, they are more likely to be content, compassionate, and helpful. Check out this blog for a few of our favorite books to teach children about gratitude.

  • It takes a village to raise a child. We’ve all heard the saying, but what do today’s parents really think? To find out, we conducted a nationwide survey of 2,000 parents of children six and under. Key findings include: ·        81% believe it’s imperative to have a support system—a village— when it comes to raising their child. ·        86% say they have a different type of support system today than their own parents did. ·        Of those with a child enrolled in school or childcare (74%), 89% say it plays a big role in their village. These parents rely on their child’s school or childcare provider an average of 12 times per month for support. “Schools and childcare providers have not just an opportunity, but a responsibility, to offer their families support, guidance and resources to help both children and parents develop into the best versions of themselves,” said Dr. Lauren Loquasto, our chief academic officer. “We are committed to fostering a community where families feel supported and connected. Parenting is a journey, and while bumps and detours are inevitable, a strong village goes a long way to helping make the journey as smooth and rewarding as possible for the entire family.” Learn more about the survey and its findings here: https://lnkd.in/d59Y5DRM
