Our team members create magic for our customers every day, and today, we’re sharing a story that really captures the spirit of the holiday season. Kathy Sweigert, vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Division, recently stumbled upon a social media post from a mother whose son Desi had lost his beloved stuffed snowman, Frosty. Kathy, whose daughter has her own stuffed monkey she could not live without, was excited and motivated to help. The social post indicated that Frosty was purchased from MARTIN'S, so Kathy contacted the merchandising team to see if we could get a new friend for Desi. That's where Ted Williams, director of center store merchandising, came in to help. Ted and his team quickly realized this particular snowman was no longer available, so they made a few calls. "We reached out quickly to our import supplier and learned that there were no product samples available. We then asked the supplier if they could manufacture a new one, and they agreed," Ted shared. "Bobby Hough, our seasonal/GM category manager, then helped our supplier along the way to ensure the snowman was manufactured, shipped, and eventually arrived at our Carlisle Support Center." "Working with a team that prioritizes kindness, collaboration, and doing what's right for the customer is truly inspiring," Kathy said. "It's the passion and commitment of Ted and Bobby that transformed my idea into an impactful result, making the entire process just as meaningful as the outcome." With the new snowman secured, Kathy delivered him to Desi's mom at store #6466 in Altoona, PA, so that new memories could be created this holiday season and for many more to come.

Please join us in congratulating Jennifer Schell on her promotion to regional director! In her new role, Jen will oversee retail operations at 17 stores across Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia working with team members to deliver freshness, value, and kindness to customers and communities.     A passionate people leader with a knack for developing team members and aligning the HR strategy with operations to drive results, Jen brings nearly two decades of experience to the role. Since joining The GIANT Company in 2006, Jen has held a variety of roles across the organization including interim regional director, store manager, and assistant store manager, and has played a critical role in several special projects designed to improve the team member experience.    Living our purpose in all that she does, Jen is active in several community organizations including The Children’s Home of Reading, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Helping Harvest, Bloomsburg Food Cupboard, and Berks County Latino Chamber of Commerce. She also previously served as the pillar lead for our THRIVE business resource group and was a 2024 Progressive Grocer Top Women in Grocery honoree.    Jen, we're excited to see you grow through this new opportunity and can't wait to see the difference you'll make in the lives of your team, customers, and the communities you serve. At The GIANT Company, we’re obsessed with freshness and hyper-focused on community. So when our team connected with locally owned and operated Denim Coffee, it was a match! Founders and co-owners Matthew Ramsay and Kristin Ramsay started Denim Coffee in 2011, roasting coffee in a 400-square-foot space in Central Pennsylvania. With now co-owner Tony Diehl on board in 2016, they opened their first retail coffee shop in downtown Carlisle, only a few miles from our Support Office. After our merchandising team toured Denim Coffee’s roasting facility in Chambersburg and sampled the quality brews, we knew we wanted to share their products with our customers. Currently, four Denim Coffee whole bean varieties – Espresso, Common Thread, Kenya, and Colombia – are available at 10 GIANT stores in Central PA. “Our customers love hyperlocal coffee options,” said Bob Frank, manager of center store brands, The GIANT Company. “They recognize these brands from going to their favorite neighborhood coffee shops and appreciate the ease of picking up these high-quality, local products while in our stores.” “We’ve been roasting coffee for customers in Central PA. for over a decade with an emphasis on finding beautiful coffees then preserving and highlighting their qualities,” said Matt Ramsay. “We’re thrilled to work with The GIANT Company to help make home brewing Denim Coffee more accessible and convenient while introducing a premium coffee option to a new audience.” Learn more about Denim Coffee at www.denimcoffeecompany.com.
