All summer, The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) has been attending community events in and around Detroit to make sure Michigan's seniors and children are staying healthy, safe and warm. At Detroit Parks and Recreation's Senior Friendship Day, THAW team members passed out utility assistance applications, Kidde Fire Safety Smoke Alarms and Energy Efficiency Kits to the city's senior residents. We want to protect our elder community members and ensure they live long, healthy lives. As Michigan's students enjoyed the last weeks of summer, THAW attended Greater Grace Temple and Life Remodeled Durfee Innovation Society's Back to School Events. Students deserve to focus on their homework instead of worrying about the lack of utilities like heat, air and water. Livable, comfortable homes are crucial for a student’s educational and emotional development, which is why THAW distributed utility assistance applications to hundreds of parents at these community events. THAW is always grateful for the opportunity to meet Michiganders where they are and provide resources to protect the state's vulnerable populations.

Thanks to a generous donation from Kidde, The Heat and Warmth Fund is in the process of distributing 10,000 Kidde smoke alarms across the State of Michigan.
