Give the gift of native wildflower seeds this holiday season! This low-waste gift idea is a perfect stocking stuffer for your environmentally conscious friends or family. Did you know that winter is the best time to get native wildflower seeds in the ground? They actually need to be exposed to the naturally cold winter temperatures! In the spring, the warmer temps will break the seeds' dormancy and begin to sprout. TEC offers four different seed mixes: Curb Appeal, Bumble Bee, Butterfly & Hummingbird, and Southern Conservation seed mix. and each packet creates up to 20 square feet of new pollinator habitat. Did you know that about 30% of our native bees are stem nesting and overwinter in their larval stage in the hollow cavity of plant stems? Save the stems! During the growing season, female bees find open stems and lay eggs in them, along with a ball of pollen and nectar for the larvae to eat. The larvae develop in the stems, hibernate during the winter, and emerge from the stems in the spring! Check out and learn from: Jo Brichetto the author of Sidewalk Nature: https://lnkd.in/eGkUVe9b Xerces Society guidelines for providing bee nesting habitats: https://lnkd.in/eHQ5sVhf

Apply to join us as a District Ambassador for the 2025 Conservation Day on the Hill on February 25th, 2025! What's Conservation Day on the Hill? Every year, we and other conservation organizations host a day at the Tennessee state legislature during the legislative session (January-April). We invite Tennesseans to join us and spend the day speaking with legislators about environmental issues and learning more about the legislative process together. What is a District Ambassador? As a District Ambassador, you'll be trained to lead groups of constituents from your Senate and House districts to speak with TN state legislators about protecting our environment at Conservation Day on the Hill. Aren't sure if you want to be a District Ambassador? That's ok! You can still participate! Stay tuned for your invitation to sign up for your district! In the meantime, join us and the Harpeth Conservancy for a free webinar about our Tennessee General Assembly and how it all works on Janurary 7th, 2025. TVA recently released its draft of the 2025 Integrated Resource Plan, which is a long-term plan for how TVA will produce electricity over the next 25 years. The 2025 IRP will impact the strength of our electricity grid, the health of our air and soil, the cost of our electricity bills, and our climate. It is more important now than ever that TVA gets this plan right, and your choices will influence the final version as TVA reviews comments on the draft.
