  • 🔥 The ThunderFog® provides control over the flow rate at the nozzle, which is CRITICAL on the fireground in a WUI environment. 👀 🏡🌲 Name a more fun term to say in the fire service industry than "WUI"... bet you can't! ⁉️ You might be asking, "What is WUI?" ✅ A WUI environment in firefighting refers to the Wildland-Urban Interface—the area where natural, undeveloped wildland meets human-made structures and communities. These zones pose unique challenges for firefighting and emergency response due to the proximity of homes, businesses, and infrastructure to flammable vegetation. #firefighting #firefighter #wui

  • 💡 Burp Drafting Variation (No. 2) - Can I burp draft by flowing from a handline nozzle? 🚒 Andy Soccodato of The Water Thieves discusses a variation of the burp drafting technique he teaches (recirculating water through the tank fill valve). Can you use a nozzle? What limitations does this tweak come with? "Some firefighters perform this technique while advancing and flowing a handline in a burning structure," he says. "However, there are two key issues: 1️⃣ The pump operator may not know if the handline is actively flowing water. If it’s not, the burp process won’t work, and tank water will flow out of the hard sleeve, causing a loss of booster tank water.   2️⃣ If the handline is flowing and a burp is attempted, the nozzle operator will experience erratic reactions as air and water mix. This leads to inconsistent flow, with periods of water and no water, which can disrupt operations."   Andy emphasizes his recommended approach:   - Recirculate water through the tank fill valve for controlled and effective burp drafting.   - Recognize that the tank fill valve functions as a self-contained discharge within the pump, offering the most reliable method for success.   💡 Proper technique and coordination between pump operators and firefighters ensure smooth and efficient operations. • "I thought for sure we were going to die." . . Powerful words from South Carolina firefighter Brianna Blankenship on a call she will never forget. "We were completely engulfed in fire. My pants were on fire. My gear was on fire, my face piece was bubbling. And I just kept looking at (firefighter Rhett Wallace) and telling him, you know, 'Hey, we got to get out of here somehow.' And the floor gave way and collapsed, and I fell approximately six feet. Rhett tried to reach down and grab me, and the floor caved in around him, on top of me.  And his dad (Bill Wallace) came over with the nozzle, put it on that fog pattern, and if he wouldn’t have done that, I wouldn't be standing here talking to you today because I ended up with second and third-degree burns to the inner part of my leg. I had a very bad concussion. It broke my helmet, melted my gear, melted my radio holster." The nozzle? A 21-year-old Quadrafog. "I ended up having a little bit of smoke inhalation," Brianna said, "but I'm thankful for TFT and the mechanics for their nozzles because I'm telling you, I wouldn't be here today along with my basic training. (The nozzle) had the combination fog on it. So he was able to get the fire off of us enough to where they could get in and safely get us out, because if he wouldn't have done it, they wouldn't have been able to get us out without getting themselves hurt or killed. Just the chief's quick thinking and the easy switch over to the fog. The fog pattern. If he wouldn't have done that, it would have definitely cooked us. And his quick actions and thinking and the design of the tool and allowing it to be a quick access, I wouldn't be here." • 👀 Wait for it ... TFT's Paul Neely has been in the fire service for 46 years and loves to put his money where his mouth is by dropping the spinning-teeth nozzles he demonstrates. Does it still work? What about the teeth lets them endure a beating? Drop it for yourself in a TFT demo!

  • 💡 Burp Drafting - Can I burp draft by flowing from a deck gun? 🚒 Andy Soccodato of The Water Thieves discusses a variation of the burp drafting technique he teaches (recirculating water through the tank fill valve). Can you use a deck gun? What limitations does this tweak come with? "One approach is to flow water out of the deck gun to achieve a burp draft," Andy says. "While this works, the operator must consider two key factors: having a proper place to discharge the water and recognizing the time limit for operation. For example, with a thousand-gallon tank, you only have one minute to achieve a prime before running out of water. If the prime isn't achieved, you’ll need another solution."   Andy recommends this method:   - Recirculate water through the tank fill valve.   - Understand that the tank fill valve acts as a self-contained discharge within the pump, making it ideal for controlled operations.   Want the full episode?
