As part of our commitment to the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCD) in Ghana, our colleagues at Syreon Research Africa attended the official launch of the Ghana STEPS Report 2023, developed by Ministry Of Health, Ghana in partnership with the Ghana Health Service. This report is Ghana’s first nationwide assessment of NCD risk factors using the World Health Organizations stepwise approach and will lay the baseline for future NCD monitoring in the country. The project identified the key areas where tailored interventions are required to improve the population’s health. Among these, there are several ones, where SRA researchers have the capability and the capacity to contribute. From these perspectives our key takeaways from the survey: · Actions are required to improve cervical cancer screening among high- risk population · Obesity is prevalent, especially in the urban population · There is a significant gap in the diagnosis of diabetes · Hypertension is prevalent in the population for both females and males. SRA will seek collaboration with WHO, the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to focus on these areas and improve the population’s health. #MinistryofHealthGhana #GhanaHealthService #WorldHealthOrganization

Syreon Research Africa was represented at the 9th Edition of the Africa Nutrition Conference organized by the African Nutrition Society in Cape Coast, Ghana. The conference focused on issues surrounding food and nutrition security, bringing together professionals and stakeholders in the field of nutrition and dietetics and beyond. Our colleague, Mohammed Tukur Asmau, MPhil, a registered nutritionist and dietician, represented the team at the event, where experts discussed various topics of relevance to the continent – from micronutrient deficiency to research on food environments. Through extensive networking, she explored avenues of research contributions and collaborations with other participant institutions. With the recent addition of the food and nutrition science to the research portfolio of the Syreon family, Syreon Research Africa is poised to make research contributions towards addressing the Food and nutrition security problems in Africa. Key projects our affiliate Syreon Research Institute is currently contributing to are FoodDataQuest EU and CATALYSE Project EU. Here is a link to what SRI’s partners at CATALYSE, with whom we attended the conference had to say about prospects in Africa: https://lnkd.in/ebhWUPza #GAND #ANC2024 #FOODSECURITY #AFRICACDC #SDG #NUTRITIONRESEARCH

Syreon Research Africa joined the 5K Run & Walk as part of our support towards Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, organized by Run For A Cure Africa Ghana at the Lincoln Community School, raised money for screening equipment to aid in the fight against breast cancer in Africa. At our lead partner’s, Syreon Research Institute, the dedication towards the breast cancer fight has been demonstrated both by the impactful research undertaken over the years and through the active contribution of Syreon Research Institute’s Head of Human Resources, Krisztina Toth, who serves as Vice President of Egészség Hídja Összefogás a Mellrák Ellen Egyesület/ Bridge of Health Alliance and is a patient advocate specialist. Although our commitment to the fight against breast cancer in Ghana and Africa has just begun, we seek to contribute our research expertise to the cause.
