Solving the toughest challenges facing California's land, air and water.
About us
Sustainable Conservation helps California thrive by uniting people to solve the toughest challenges facing our land, air and water. Every day, we bring together business, landowners and government to steward the resources that we all depend on in ways that make economic sense. Because we know that common ground is California’s most important resource. Too often, conflict overshadows common ground when solving environmental problems. For decades, fighting it out in court or the state house has been the default approach to addressing tough challenges facing California’s land, air, and water. Each conflict deepens the distrust and animosity between environmental groups and business, while the pressure on our vital natural resources only increases. California deserves better. When we unite all those who are affected by a problem, understand their perspectives, and find common ground, we succeed in stewarding the resources we all depend on for a thriving future.

As our climate warms, more of California's precipitation will fall in intense rainfall events. Starting this weekend, the Bay Area can look forward to a whole "family" of storms fueled by strong atmospheric rivers https://buff.ly/3P6iduY

Thanks to you, Californians took on-farm recharge from an experimental practice to a mainstream solution over the past six years. Your gift today helps our coalitions capture and store water in the wet years ahead to prepare for dry times https://buff.ly/3ZYicPP

Great piece by Steve McCormick in Medium on Earth Genome and Sustainable Conservation's partnership in supporting groundwater sustainability with our Groundwater Recharge Assessment Tool (GRAT) and our work in the Flood-MAR watershed studies for some of the most heavily used river systems in California

Earth Genome has been an amazing partner for all of our groundwater data needs! Check out their work, and we're pleased to work with them to scale groundwater recharge as a drought solution for California
Our founder Steve McCormick shares a short video by Sustainable Conservation on our work together on groundwater recharge in California, and reflects on how well targeted digital tools can accelerate solutions to the most challenging environmental problems.
