What seems small to us can sometimes be catastrophic to others...🕊️🐥 Even the most minuscule plastics can have life-threatening effects on both humans, and all other life forms around us! Who are these hidden culprits, and what exactly is it that they do? To name a few, there are: 1. Bisphenol A (BPA): BPA is a chemical compound used in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. It is known to mimic the hormone estrogen and has been linked to various health issues, including reproductive disorders, developmental problems, and certain cancers. BPA can leach out of plastic containers, particularly when they are heated or come into contact with acidic or fatty foods. 2. Phthalates: Phthalates are a group of chemicals used as plasticizers to make plastics more flexible and durable. They have been associated with hormone disruption, reproductive problems, asthma, and developmental issues, particularly in children. 3. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): PVC is a widely used plastic known for its durability and versatility. Its production and disposal can release toxic chemicals such as dioxins, phthalates, and vinyl chloride into the environment. Dioxins are highly toxic and can cause cancer, reproductive and developmental disorders, and immune system damage in humans and animals. 4. Styrene: Styrene is a chemical compound used in the production of polystyrene plastics, which are commonly used in food packaging, disposable cups, and foam insulation. Styrene exposure has been associated with respiratory issues, neurological effects, and carcinogenicity in humans. These are just a few examples of the toxins present in plastics and their potentially harmful effects on living things. It's important to be aware of these risks and take steps to minimize exposure to harmful chemicals by choosing safer alternatives and practicing proper waste management and recycling♻️ #SustainableCoastlinesHawaii #CoastHuggers #CleanYoBeach #PlasticPollution #ToxicPlastics #SustainableLiving #SayNoToPlastic #PlasticFreeFuture #EcoAwareness #ToxinFreeLiving

While top global plastic polluters like the coca cola company and nestle profit from the production and sale of single-use plastic products, communities around the world are suffering the consequences. From polluting the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink, plastic has become a persistent issue throughout the world. As we look to the future of what kind of world we want to be part of, it highlights a culture of reuse, upcycling, taking civic action, and a circular economy that gives more than it takes from our natural world. #sustainablecoastlineshawaii #cleanyobeach #coasthuggers #civicaction #plasticpollutioneducation #plasticpollution #plasticfreeoceans #Repost @breakfreefromplastic ・・・ We are paying the price as top corporate plastic polluters @cocacola, @nestle, @unilever, @pepsico, and @mondelez_international continue to flood the environment with single-use plastic. It’s time to end single-use plastics, switch to reuse systems now! Link in bio for more information. #BrandAudit2023 #BreakFreeFromPlastic

What an incredible way to start the year! Last night we had the opportunity to watch the ReUnite Us film and take part in the conversation as our Executive Director Rafael Bergstrom took part in the panel following the film. Our team left feeling inspired to stay steadfast and ground into the work we do in inspiring communities to care for coastlines. #sustainablecoastlineshawaii #ReUniteUsfilm #parleyairstation #sustainability #Bill40
