#25Years25Lessons Lesson 6 Warning: This lesson might be fuzzy from the after-effects of a Christmas feast. But here it is all the same: You cannot go it alone. Last week, I shared the story of an advisor who missed out on a potential 6-figure payday because she refused to collaborate. She wanted the whole pie for herself, per se, but didn’t entirely know how to go about baking it… (I warned you..*burp* *excuse me*) But here’s the thing: There will be many, many challenges and opportunities that you are just not equipped to handle on your own. Choosing to collaborate and learn from someone else, even if it means you have to share the rewards, will only serve you. The other option is letting the opportunity slide altogether. And then it’s not just the potential money on the table that you lose. It’s the lesson. The relationship. The trust you’ve worked hard to build. All of that goes flying out the window, too. So if you really want to go far, don’t try to go it alone. Lean into the possibility and potential that opens up when you join forces with others. #collaboration #lifelessons #careersinfinance #financialadvisors #itsnotbusinessitspersonal

Ok, story time - and this one’s juicy. I’ll start with a question: What’s 100% of 0? Yep - Zero. Well, this story is about Angelica. She’s been in the Life Insurance industry for over two decades. Like many advisors, she had that one ‘whale’ client—a billionaire—who she hoped would one day be her ticket to financial success. But here’s the problem: Angelica never adapted her approach to serve him. She just went to him with an inflated mass-market product. ´ But your affluent, big-deal clients don’t need a mass market proposition. They need tailored, high-value solutions. Eventually, the client realized this wasn’t working and he happened to reach out to, take a guess… Right… me. He knew me socially and had heard that I specialised in tailoring financial plans and life insurance for people like him.  The client wanted my expertise but said to me: There’s another advisor involved and I don’t want drama. So, I reached out to Angelica with two options: 1️⃣ Let me manage the client and I’d still send 50% of the revenue her way (sizeable paycheck, btw…) 2️⃣ Collaborate with me to meet the client’s needs and earn a share while learning from the process  Instead, Angelica chose a third option: Drama :) She called the client, accused me of stealing him, and ended up losing him entirely. The result? Angelica earned 100% of zero dollars. That client bought a $50M policy elsewhere. This isn’t just Angelica’s story—it’s a lesson for all of us: 👉 Be willing to collaborate. Share the win. 👉 Focus on the client’s needs, not your ego. 👉 Recognize when you’re out of your depth and call in an expert. I’ve been on the other side, losing clients because I tried to handle it all alone.  But when I shifted my mindset to collaboration, everything changed. Today, partnerships are a cornerstone of my practice. So ask yourself: What is NOT collaborating costing you? #collaboration #financialadvisor #careersinfinance #growthmindset #itsnotbusinessitspersonal

Dive in, because we’re going to share a case update later this week. Original case study linked in the comments below. #financialplanning #wealthbuilding #lifeinsurance #financialadvisors #casestudy #successionplanning

  • Advisors: Are you leaving money on the table by NOT pitching new products to old clients? Is your fear of how this might come off robbing your client of a good opportunity? Understandable. When done unethically, this ‘churning’ behaviour is frowned upon. It is seen as a way to ‘milk’ an existing client for another commission check. But our latest case study will change your perspective. When done from a place of service, and with the client’s best interests in mind… ‘Re-selling’ can be a total win-win. Phew, this was a tricky one to talk about! But awkward as it may be, I think we financial advisors need to talk more openly about managing difficult clients and client expectations. Here’s a client who, for many reasons was a wrong-fit for us, but the biggest reason was: Non-communication. Here’s an insight into the client relationship as well as my thoughts on how to handle these situations. #communication #clientstories #business #financialservices #financialadvisor #itsnotbusinessitspersonal
