This week Structures Unlimited’s Steve Shorey, Polka Vako and Rosalyn Davidson had the true honor of presenting a $10,000 donation to Spaulding Academy & Family Services. Structures Unlimited presented a $3,000 donation last November, so the staff were truly moved by this additional donation. Spaulding staff mentioned that with the previous donation, they were able to purchase Christmas gifts as well as provide each of the cottages (where some students reside full time) with large group gifts, such as a large sensory wall and outdoor volleyball net and balls, just to name a few! These donations are making a true difference in the lives of these students and the teams that support them. Thank you to the Spaulding staff and team for the warm welcome! Interestingly, in their gathering area where they hold story time, above them is a Kalwall skylight (installed around 2007). #KalwallCares

Kalwall Illuminated Translucent Canopies for the Mayo Clinic St. Mary's Mary Brigh Building. We worked alongside TSP Architects (Rochester) and Benike Construction (Rochester) to install five Kalwall translucent canopies for the Mayo Clinic Saint Mary's Campus Mary Brigh Building. A unique challenge of this project was the limited space for structural framing, which required the four outer skylights to be specially engineered by Structures Unlimited (a division of Kalwall Corporation). These skylights were designed to minimize outward thrust (MOT), reducing the reactions at the skylight's perimeter. This approach enhances the canopy's appearance, making it look lighter and creating a more open feel below. The canopies ensure smooth transitions for building occupants between spaces at the clinic while offering protection from the elements. The bold design accentuates the entrance and safeguards visitors as they come and go. Advantages of Kalwall illuminating canopies for the clinic: Improved Visibility and Safety Enhances visibility in low-light conditions, making the area safer for pedestrians and vehicles. Provides clear wayfinding cues, helping guide visitors or occupants to entrances and exits. Architectural Aesthetic This design creates a striking visual effect, especially at night, adding a dynamic and modern touch to the structure. Highlights the canopy as an architectural feature, elevating the overall building design. Enhanced Usability Extends the canopy's usability into nighttime hours by ensuring the space remains functional and welcoming. Supports activities under the canopy without requiring additional external lighting. On Friday November 14, 2024, Structures Unlimited’s Rosalyn Davidson, Steve Shorey, Polka Vako presented a generous donation from Structures Unlimited to the Spaulding Academy & Family Services to help them purchase Christmas gifts for their students. A special thank you to the members of Spaulding Academy & Family Services - Nicole Keefe, Nicholas Silva, Brittany Labonte and Courtney Leighton for such a warm welcome and for providing a tour of the campus as well as meeting both students and teachers. Students at Spaulding come there with a wide range of primary educational disabilities including, Autism, Emotional Handicap, Intellectual Disability, Other Health Impairment, Speech or Language Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, Traumatic Brain Injury, Developmental Delay, and Multiple Disabilities. The certified teachers and professionals provide instruction with modification and accommodations to meet each student’s individual educational plan. They are supported by other on-site services such as Occupational, Physical, Speech and Language therapy. The staff strive every day to make sure all the students feel empowered and loved.
