Advancing the art of structural engineering in New York
About us
SEAoNY was founded in 1996 to advance the art of structural engineering in New York by improving the flow of ideas and building a community of colleagues. With over 500 members representing both large structural engineering firms and small practices, the association is the voice of the New York structural engineering profession. We sponsor educational events, participate in code review and development, provide networking opportunities, develop technical resources, and advocate for our profession. The association engages with a large group of student members from local universities. We also reach out to other professionals who work in related fields with common interests. Currently, 5% of our members come from adjacent disciplines such as geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, construction management, and architecture. SEAoNY is a member organization of the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations.

This week, I had the opportunity to meet some of the recipients of the 2024 NCSEA 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 at the national summit in Las Vegas. These scholarships were established to support historically underrepresented students pursuing careers in structural engineering. Two days ago, 𝗡𝗖𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 Tricia Ruby an incredible friend who I deeply admire and respect (as do many others in our profession!) invited donor group representatives to the stage for recognition. I was pleased and honored to be one among a group of 25 to be part of the review committee this year. I’d like to give a big shout out and expression of gratitude to this year’s generous donors Computers and Structures, Inc. Ashraf Habibullah Applied Technology Council Degenkolb Engineers HOLMES STRUCTURES, A PARTNERSHIP Martin/Martin, Inc Structural Engineers Association - Metropolitan Washington (SEA-MW) Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) Tipping Family Tipping Think Wood FORELL ELSESSER I got to meet and congratulate in person Eduardo Montalto Bolaños Oluwatimilehin Adeboyejo Baiyu Chen Edwin Reyes Barreras Ana Mateo-Jerez Ibrahima Fall Afeez Badmus Ronald Orellana, EIT Divino Gonzales Maria Emilia Clavijo Calderon Alberto Diaz Loza, S.M.ASCE Damario Berry Javier Andres Chininin Cabrera Leon Crawford, EIT Santa F. What a unique opportunity for a presentation: This topic was about the latest building snow load requirements (ASCE 7-22) in the historically snowiest metro in the country (Syracuse, NY) by the the most influential person of snow load design for buildings (Dr. Michael O’Rourke). Thanks to my colleagues at SEAoNY - Upstate Chapter that made this presentation and others at the CNY Engineering Expo possible!
