A few takeaways and observations from the #tgs2024 TiE Global Summit event in Bengaluru over the last couple of days - 🚀 To say that the startup scene in India is vibrant is a huge understatement. The energy and excitement is palpable. 🚀 There were the obvious B2B SaaS startups but the landscape extended into Agritech, Deeptech, Greentech, Fintech and more. 🚀 Very few AI/GenAI startups surprisingly - less hype and more focus on real solutions to real problems. 🚀 The few AI-based startups were in either marketing automation or in the HR/recruiting spaces. 🚀 While there seems to be a lot of ecosystem support for entrepreneurs in terms of leadership training, access to funding, peer guidance etc., there is still a huge knowledge gap in terms of PMF, GTM, partner marketing, branding etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if a significant number of these startups fail within the next year. TiE and other such organizations are definitely on the right track to fix this gap but more needs to be done. 🚀 Entrepreneurship is being encouraged at a school level, from what I heard. At this same event, I saw hundreds of school kids walking the floors learning about new technology and concepts. 🚀 In my conversations, several startups acknowledged that the Indian market is either saturated or too crowded with vendors making it hard to sell. They aspired for the greener pastures in the US market. However, I am not entirely sure if this is truly a market problem or a marketing problem. 🚀 And hey, celebrities like Vidya Balan and Andre Agassi want a piece of this action too. They are either active or passive investors in this space. Overall a great event for networking and feeling the vibe with 14000+ delegates.
