This morning I just want to show some appreciation and gratitude to a few people that really helped me in high school. My mom and brother moved to Wichita Falls in the middle of my sophomore year. At that time, I had saved my own money and bought my first car from one of my OG’s LaRue Kaso. Honestly, I didn’t know at that time I was a homeless, at-risk, economically disadvantaged student. I want to thank my bro Leonard Hewitt for letting me sneak in his house while his father was there so that I had somewhere to sleep for about 6 months. I want to thank Desimond Coutee Gloria Chatmon Keke Coutee Byron Coutee Jr. for allowing me to live with them for another 6 months. I appreciate y’all for sharing shelter and clothes. I want to thank my heavenly grandparents for allowing me to live with them for a short period of time on 2 occasions, lord knows how much I miss them. Lastly, I want to thank my aunt Dedra Watts Mark for being the amazing person you are, providing shelter, food, resources and love! It’s just on my heart to thank all of you cause I don’t know where I would be without y’all! There are many other people who contributed to my life, elementary-high school such as: Orlando Coleman, Connie Mark, Freddie Gibson and aunt Chyrl Watts. Y’all wouldn’t understand that by 8th grade, I had been introduced to 8 different step parents (2 being white, 1 Hispanic, 1 woman) and I had moved 2-3 times a year every year. So when bro Xavier Roberson say #LongWay, it hit different! When bro say #ChampionsOfTheTrenches it hit different! This is my why…. I need the students and people that are going through similar struggles or have lived through similar situations to know YOU MATTER!
