Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics #STEM Education has, over the years, created an expansive repository of knowledge, fundamentally contributing to our understanding of effective teaching and learning practices. However, the quality and credibility of these research findings have recently been called into question, with mounting evidence suggesting a substantial number of these studies might be subjective, misleading or erroneous. About us
STEM.org Educational Research™ emerges not merely as a participant but as the pioneering architect of the sector's quality assurance protocols. At the forefront of this landscape since 2001, STEM.org has distinguished itself as the progenitor of its esteemed STEM trustmarks, an emblem of educational fidelity and excellence in STEM education. The history of this institution is marked by scholarly dedication, highlighted by the significant five-year K-12 STEM school study that, in 2019, was featured on the front cover of Newsweek. Furthermore, it shed light on an era within STEM education that was once shrouded in ambiguity, meticulously uncovering what it refers to as "STEM's Lost Decade". It is through this pivotal work that the most accurate and comprehensive chronology of the STEM education movement has been assembled, a feat that harmonizes historical veracity with pedagogical advancement and all catalogued in Forbes. Enduring as the longest-operating, privately-held bastion of independent STEM education research, STEM.org's legacy is steeped in innovation and advocacy. Its influential role has been palpable, underpinning pivotal initiatives and interlacing with keystones such as the 2005 STEM Congressional Caucus, reinforcing the structure upon which the movement has ascended. The culmination of this synergistic endeavor between educators, researchers, administrators, and non-profit entities has yielded a set of autonomous STEM benchmarks that are both rigorous and reflective of best practices within the field. The resulting validation framework, encompassing STEM.org Certified™ (for people), STEM.org Accredited™ (for programs), STEM.org Authenticated™ (for products), and STEM.org Endorsed™ (for students), stands today as the original and most venerable standard of STEM excellence—a testament to the integrity and foresight of the esteemed research organization. Watch our middle schoolers in action as they take on the STOMP rocket challenge in the video below. Trust me, it's a sight that will make you believe in the power of joy-driven learning!
Founder | STEM Curriculum Specialist | Revolutionizing Education One School, One Child, One Parent at a Time
Why Bringing JOY into the Classroom is the Key to Effective Learning As an educator, I've encountered countless middle schoolers who describe school as "boring." The repetitive cycle of one-way, teacher-led lessons simply doesn't engage them. When students are bombarded with free knowledge at their fingertips—through a click of a button, colorful 3D visualizations, and even AR headsets—it's no surprise that the traditional classroom, is struggling. So, what can we do to make learning more engaging and meaningful for students? The answer, lies in infusing joy into the classroom. By blending learning with hands-on challenges, encouraging students to think critically, and providing opportunities for them to create, test, and experiment, learning becomes an active process. When a lesson brings excitement, the transformation from disengaged to eager learner happens almost effortlessly. In this video, our middle school students participated in an engineering design challenge. They were tasked with designing paper rockets—rockets that soared up to 100 feet in the sky! The joy was contagious as each success was celebrated and each failure was seen as a learning opportunity. This hands-on experience was not just about the thrill of watching rockets soar. It was about problem-solving, teamwork, and learning through failure. It was about giving students the space to challenge their thinking and express their creativity. At TheWorkshop, we strive to bring this joy-filled, hands-on approach to STEM education every day. When we challenge students to think, create, and solve, they not only gain knowledge—they become critical thinkers ready to tackle the world around them. #theworkshop #STEMEducation #ExperientialLearning #HandsOnLearning #JoyOfLearning #LearningByDoing #stem #theworkshoped
