About us
The Steel Joist Institute (SJI), a nonprofit organization of active joist manufacturers, was founded in 1928 to address the lack of uniform joist standards within the industry. Today, SJI continues to maintain the standards for steel joist construction as an ANSI-approved Standards Developing Organization. In addition, SJI provides resources, including publications, live and recorded webinars, and design tools to assist structural engineers or other AEC professionals with utilization of steel joists and Joist Girders.

The Steel Joist Institute brought representatives from 14 member companies across Canada, the United States, and Mexico to San Antonio, TX, for a productive and forward-thinking Board of Directors meeting. We welcomed Jodec, LLC from Groveland, FL as our newest member. The meeting also marked a heartfelt farewell to retiring Consulting Engineer Jim Fisher, whose contributions leave a lasting legacy, while welcoming Mark Denavit SJI’s new Consulting Engineer. The Board elected new officers for the coming year: Keith Juedemann of Valley Joist will serve as President, supported by Jeff Coker of New Millennium as First Vice President, and Sam Ervin Vulcraft as Second Vice President. Tim Holtermann of Canam Steel will step into the role of Past President, with Ken Charles of SJI continuing as Secretary/Treasurer. Looking ahead, SJI is kicking off several new research projects, including work on the upcoming 46th edition of the main specification. Educational achievements this year have been remarkable, with over 8,000 certificates awarded—a testament to the program’s ongoing success. Additionally, Ben Zeigler, Institute General Counsel, provided valuable insights into the latest antitrust developments. SJI is proud to lead the industry with innovation, collaboration, and education. Thank you to everyone who made this meeting a success! #SteelJoistInstitute #Leadership #Innovation #StructuralEngineering
