About us
Steel in the Air was the first land-owner centric cell tower lease consultancy firm in the United States. Since 2004, SITA has been a trusted resource for private and public landowners, municipalities, investors, attorneys and educators. We assist our clients with cell tower and cell site lease negotiations against wireless carriers, tower companies and lease buyout companies. Together, with our partner, Steel Tree Partners, we've helped broker over $800 million in wireless assets for small tower owners. We pride ourselves on our ethical, no-nonsense approach to cellular lease negotiations and asset valuation, as well as our unparalleled telecom infrastructure expertise and reputable network of industry professionals. Most importantly, unlike other lease consultants, we work for our clients interests exclusively. We play for the home team.

We receive many inquiries from property owners who confuse the actual tower with antennas that are placed on rooftops. These antennas are more accurately described as cell “sites”. There can be multiple cell sites (and multiple tenants) on any one given tower (or rooftop). This article will help clarify the difference between the types of towers and the equipment that is placed on and used for cell site transmissions: https://bit.ly/3CJpZYN.

A lengthy letter to the editor about the difficulty of being a tower contractor these days. Having left the contracting side of the industry 20 years ago after similar mistreatment from a carrier and general contractor, it's hard to see that much has improved. The irony is that even to this day, the carriers bemoan the lack of qualified labor all the while doing everything they can to drive companies out of the business. They lobby for more training programs and more subsidies from the government for training. When people reach out to me about where they can find training to join the wireless industry, I suggest they look to another industry for exactly these reasons. This isn't the first similar article/letter to the editor. And unfortunately, I'm not sure how this letter will change anything. At least not until there are no more contractors willing to take work... https://buff.ly/3BzNzH1 #telecom #wireless #5Gfail

In the early results of our survey, I am a bit surprised by this one. Personally, I would have thought Verizon, simply because of how steady they have been over the last decade. I doubt many of you are surprised that DISH is at the bottom. Not too late to add your vote to our poll: https://buff.ly/4irbVTX

In the latest round of fabrications and untruths from the lease optimization companies like Md7, here's a gem. "AT&T is reaching out to it’s (sic) properties to see if they want to sell their lease to a friendly third-party investor. Elon Musk has been working with T-Mobile on a Satellite (sic) system to remove the need for rural sites. The rest of the carriers are lined up, ready to jump on if it works. Once it happens (sic) it will be fast and complete. With interest rates and stocks doing as well as they are, it may be a good time for you to sell." "You can take the lump sum and invest modestly in the current CDs or get more aggressive with AT&T or, or (sic) a cell tower REIT like American Tower or Crown Castle. I think American Tower is up 185% in the past few years." American Tower would love this if it were true—but sadly, it's not. In fact, depending upon your definition of the past few years, it's either down significantly or even.

This post wisely asks why the wireless operators aren't showcasing more of their own internal use cases for hashtag#5G and hashtag#privatenetworks. If they are so valuable, you would think that there would be more real-life demonstrations of technology in action at the telecom operator's headquarters and in their own service vehicles. (Other than "how fast is our 5G" in the lab type tests).

In 1984, the FCC required that the Bell Company divest its assets, which it did by splitting into seven “Baby Bells”. Do you know the rest of the story?
