On September 30th and October 1st, 2024, we completed a round of measurements at the railway bridge in Otradovice. These measurements are part of the SRIMS research project, which aims to compare and validate various monitoring technologies for railway infrastructure. The big topic of the moment is e-metering, which can effectively reduce the costs associated with building management. HARDWARIO offers the CHESTER wM-Bus product, a wireless gateway designed to communicate with energy meters using the Wireless M-Bus protocol. The gateway receives signals from wM-Bus T1 and C1 meters at regular intervals, allowing it to aggregate received wM-Bus packets and transmit them over the NB-IoT/LTE-M network. In addition, CHESTER wM-Bus can detect faults such as gas leaks, backflows, or water leaks. The CHESTER wM-Bus sends the collected data to the cloud, which can be used immediately by the building manager for billing. Another interesting feature at the HARDWARIO stand is the miniature STICKER sensor. Two AA batteries power the STICKER sensor and can run on them for a long time. It can collect environmental data, has a motion sensor, and has two digital inputs for 24 V industrial logic. Many other external sensors can be connected to it. STICKER communicates wirelessly via LoRaWAN. It has been successfully deployed, for example, in the healthcare industry. At our booth, you can see many other products and solutions. Structure Health Monitoring (SHM) systems alone cannot completely prevent such situations, but they are among the most important tools to reduce the risk. SHM plays a crucial role in smart infrastructure management, allowing the planning of repairs and maintenance based on real-time data and facts. Additionally, SHM systems can trigger alarms if there are early signs of potential issues, giving time to apply necessary measures. We are pleased to have had the opportunity to assist ČVUT (Department of Railways) in enhancing their system as part of the "Measurement at Semily Railway Station" project. This initiative, conducted under a contract with the Railway Administration (SZ) and other stakeholders, focuses on the operational verification of construction layer compositions with stabilizing geogrid and cemented asphalt layers. In 2024, the measurements will be included in a ČVUT student grant titled "Long-term Monitoring and Assessment of the Test Section in Semily Railway Station." The main objective of this project is the periodic measurement of data in the test section with various construction layer compositions, including asphalt concrete and aggregate layers of different thicknesses, complemented by a stabilizing geogrid, established in the summer of 2023. This project aims to support the future development of high-speed railway lines in the Czech Republic. With Leos Hornicek, Daniel Vích, Michal Resl and Jiří Pospíšil.

Today, around 9:30 AM, a M 5.1 earthquake occurred east of Snyder, the sixth strongest earthquake recorded in Texas history. Scurry County has experienced 61 earthquakes in the past week, prompting County Judge Dan Hicks to declare a disaster and request assistance from the state. He also reported damage to businesses and homes throughout the county. As we mentioned in our prior post, the recent earthquakes are near the town of Hermleigh, a town of around 500 people in Scurry County, in the vicinity of a conventional producing oilfield. Nearby to the west of Snyder in NW Scurry county, low-grade seismicity has been associated with EOR and/or CO2 injection in the region.
