Stand & Deliver is a global firm specializing in communication and leadership consulting
About us
Stand & Deliver is a global leadership communication consulting and training firm. We help leaders and their teams engage, influence and inspire others--and produce real-world results. Stand & Deliver programs are about much more than just communication skills. They are about mindfulness--the psychodynamics of powerful and authentic connection--and they challenge leaders to examine how they engage and relate to themselves, to each other, to their organizations, and to the world. Stand & Deliver consultants are acclaimed for their ability to unleash hidden potential in leaders. Our programs are built on a core triad of skills: Content: Effective leadership-communication requires a clear, compelling message. We've created a narrative-architecture tool that you can apply in any speaking situation to ensure your message is relevant and focused. Delivery: Ideas don't speak for themselves. Too often, important messages don't get heard because they're communicated in ways that obscure the speaker's authentic passion, excitement or conviction. We help you bring your content to life by ensuring your body, voice and eyes are congruent with your words--to ensure your point sticks. State: State of mind is the most neglected component of high-stakes communication. It's also the most important. Strong content and delivery cannot overcome a poor state. The techniques we offer for cultivating an optimum state will give you a repeatable routine for directing your focus to produce peak performance on command. You'll be prepared to manage your emotions and focus before any event--whether you're addressing an audience of one or one thousand. Experiential Learning: We believe in learning by doing, and our programs are highly participatory. Our intimate faculty-to-participant ratio ensures that everyone practices in a supportive, encouraging environment where they can take risks and receive constructive, relevant feedback.

One more shout out after #AASP24 … this one to Stand & Deliver, a phenomenal company that primes organizations for high-performance communication and leadership. I’ve enjoyed being one of their Performance Coaches this year working with leaders from organizations such as Cisco, Genentech and Caterpillar Inc. I appreciate the compliments on my presentation style and effectiveness in my communication during this year’s workshop. Comments like "I can honestly say I walked out of your session a better practitioner. So thank you very much!" and "You have such a gift in making complex concepts very tangible. Thanks for such a great learning experience!" were posted here on LinkedIn. I pass the credit on to Peter Meyers and my S&D colleagues for the training and enhancing my skill set. “As We Speak” is their book. It lays out the blueprint for elite communication. S&D offers exceptional training for those who want a deep dive. You can get the book (and learn more) here: https://lnkd.in/ggxU2aEa And thanks again to my S&D friends! Celebrating another year of Carrie Paff helping #AU impact thousands of Autodesk customers and partners!
What were Trevor Noah and Counting Crows doing in San Diego (…and on my LinkedIn)? 😎 Easy — they were both part of an unforgettable week at #AU: the Design and Make Conference! 🎉 More than 10,000 Autodesk customers, partners, and innovators gathered under the SoCal sun ☀️ to explore how #AutodeskAI is helping to build a better future. From Vayve Mobility’s solar electric cars in India 🚗 to the 3D preservation of ancient Volterra 🏛️, and Aloft Systems’ carbon-reducing sails for shipping vessels 🚢, our customers showed up BIG — and so👏🏾did👏🏾we. We kicked off the week with powerful keynotes from our inspiring CEO Andrew Anagnost, CTO Raji Arasu, and Industry Leaders Amy Bunszel, Jeff Kinder, and Diana Colella. The energy continued with a rich lineup of classes, diverse events, and a vibrant expo floor buzzing with innovation. And to top it all off, we closed with an epic party in the Gaslamp District, where the #CountingCrows delivered a legendary performance for our amazing customers! 🎶🔥 I couldn’t be prouder of our entire #Autodesk team. I’m especially grateful to our marketing team (shout-out to Nellie G., Tamara Thompson, Kristina Adamski, Harald Oettl, Vikram Dutt, Mary Hope McQuiston, Brandon Yoon, and their rockstar teams!) for pulling off an extraordinary event. And to our customers and partners — we’re so thankful to be on this journey with you. 🚀 AU 2024, you were one for the books! 💥 #AU2024 #Design #Make #AI #Autodesk

The Double-Edged Sword of Constructive Feedback Presenting at Black Hat USA this August was a real thrill. It was one of the biggest audiences I've ever presented in front of, and represented one of my first big opportunities to speak directly to professionals in the tech industry instead of the usual legal professionals. I worked for countless hours to prepare, including with an amazing coach at Stand & Deliver. Sharing my expertise on the government's enforcement landscape and risks to cybersecurity professionals felt vital. But admittedly I rely on a steady stream of self-affirmation to conquer imposter syndrome and power through each day. I find constructive feedback like the evaluations yesterday to be hard. Here goes mine: ☂Delivery Matters: One attendee called my delivery "forced." That stings, but it's a signal I need to refine my approach for different audiences and try not to sound as rehearsed as I absolutely was. ☂Humility Over Hype: Ouch, this one hurt the most. My attempt to set the stage by describing my education and professional history came off at least to some as shameless self-promotion. In their words, my description of my accomplishments "was cringy and could have been handled more humbly. As a tech person, I don't give a sh!t. Your speech and actions will tell me if you are smart. My advice – let your actions and accomplishments speak for what you've done in the past." Of course I can see how showcasing expertise through substance is more impactful than proclaiming it. I suppose I did focus too much on introducing myself including my academic credentials in an effort to set the context for my talk. ☂Speaking Truth to Power: I was criticized for calling out the massive power of the U.S. government and the pain that its enforcement decisions have caused and continue to cause to cyber security professionals. For this, I'm not sorry—even if at least one attendee felt this was a personal attack on current and former government officials. I proudly call out capricious enforcement that targets easy scapegoats over real culpability. If that offends those enabling such actions, I won't apologize. This issue is too critical. ☂The Path Forward: Feedback, even if uncomfortable, is a chance to learn. I'll take these insights to heart, refine my delivery, and keep advocating for the cybersecurity and wider tech community with humility and conviction. ☂A Call to Action: To those who have taken the time and effort to deliver constructive feedback, thank you for your honesty. It's not always easy to give or receive, but it's how we grow. I'd be grateful to hear from any of my LinkedIn friends and all my mentors and coaches both formal and informal, if you have any thoughts for me and anyone else on how to gracefully accept and interpolate constructive feedback.
