Celebrating Oregon's Top High School Athletes – 2024 Fall Sports Edition From thrilling finishes to record-breaking performances, Oregon’s high school athletes delivered another unforgettable fall season in 2024. The Oregon Sports Awards, in partnership with the Oregonian Media Group, are proud to honor six exceptional student-athletes in cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball for their outstanding achievements. 🏃♀️ Cross Country: Chloe Huyler (Lakeridge): Undefeated season and Class 6A state champion. Tayvon Kitchen (Crater): Back-to-back Class 5A champion and top Oregon runner at Nike Cross Nationals. 🏈 Football: LaMarcus Bell (Lake Oswego): Rushed for 1,630 yards and 26 touchdowns, leading the Lakers to an 11-1 season. ⚽ Soccer: Vance Sheffield (La Salle Prep): 101 career goals, Class 5A state champion, and two-time All-State Player of the Year. Paige Nakada (Grant): Anchored a dominant defense, leading Grant to a 17-0-1 record, placing 2nd in the state. 🏐 Volleyball: Paige Thies (Oregon City): Two-time Player of the Year, leading her team to back-to-back championship game appearances. Drawing a record-breaking crowd of nearly 5,000 loud and energetic fans in the pouring rain, PR7s delivered an unforgettable showcase of elite rugby, featuring six electrifying professional matches including the U.S. and Canadian National Team, 25 Olympians, and nine medalists. “The success of the PR7s All-Star Tournament shows that rugby has arrived in the United States. The record-breaking attendance and global broadcast reach are clear signals that this summer has changed the game for the sport. Meet Oregon Soar: The newest women's professional franchise in Oregon. Professional ultimate frisbee is reaching new heights in Oregon with the formation of the Oregon Ultimate Alliance, led by Darci Fredricks and Bill Freeman. The wife-and-husband duo took the leap into sports ownership in 2024, acquiring the Oregon Nitro, rebranding it as the Oregon Steel, and launching the Oregon Soar—a new women’s team in the Western Ultimate League set to debut in 2025. What a Night to Celebrate Oregon Sports 🏆 The Night of Champions was a huge success, bringing together over 400 attendees to honor the incredible achievements of Oregon athletics—from high school standouts to professionals. We celebrated the 2024 Oregon Sports Awards winners and the new inductees into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, making it an unforgettable evening of legacy and inspiration. Sport Oregon is proud to announce our 2nd place finish at the 2024 Oregon Charity Championship. We earned $15,000 to support our mission of enhancing sports across the state. Our team, featuring Hannah Swanson, Jordan Fezler, Taylor Klopp, and Bill Winter delivered an incredible performance. S/O Hannah, who also won a KP, adding another $1,000 to our total. Congratulations to David Lucas and his team from the Maurice Lucas Foundation for securing 1st place. David—who is also on our board—has kindly pledged $5,000 of their winnings to Sport Oregon.
