In celebration of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, we reflect on the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, a sprawling one-story, 29,700 square foot facility located in Newport News, VA. Supported by the local governments of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and York County, this shelter serves various communities by reuniting lost pets with their owners and finding new homes for abandoned animals, along with offering a comprehensive veterinary clinic. With the capacity to accommodate roughly 100 dogs and 180 cats, along with small pocket pets and other companion animals, this shelter plays a significant role in transforming the lives of numerous animals.

In celebration of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, we reflect on Dare County Animal Shelter situated on Roanoke Island near the North Carolina Aquarium. This single-story, 8,700 square foot facility, which was inaugurated in 2021, features an area for animals to play and offices as well. With the capacity to take in both domestic and wild animals, this modern center significantly enhances the welfare of the local community.

In celebration of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, we reflect on the Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center. This impressive $12.5 million facility encompasses 38,000 square feet to house up 192 dogs, 129 cats and 20 other pets. Along with the generosities for animals brought forth by this operation, the building was also designed to be kind to the environment. The state-of-the-art VB Animal Care & Adoption Center earned LEED Silver certification from USGBC. This design/build project received the 2012 Design-Build Merit Award by the DBIA as well as the 2012 Virginia Beach Planning Commission Honor Award in the Public Facilities category for their Design Award Program.

The new Checkered Flag Porsche is underway in Virginia Beach! Situated on Virginia Beach Boulevard and North Lynnhaven Road, this two-story, 50,000 square foot dealership will perfectly showcase its luxurious automobiles while also providing top-notch services to customer vehicles. Our EIT’s Rachel and Brendan were excited to observe this week’s construction progress including CMU wall and steel framing construction.
