About us

Founded in 1938, the SPCA of Texas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization that operates two shelters, one spay/neuter clinic, one mobile adoptions vehicle and an animal rescue center, all located in Dallas and Ellis Counties, and maintains a team of animal cruelty investigators who rescue hundreds of animals from cruelty each year in North Texas counties. Moreover, the SPCA of Texas serves as an active resource center for an array of services that bring people and animals together to enrich each other’s lives. The SPCA of Texas is not affiliated with any other entity and does not receive general operating funds from the City of Dallas, State of Texas, federal government or any other national humane organization. SPCA of Texas is dedicated to providing every animal exceptional care and a loving home. To learn more about the SPCA of Texas, visit www.spca.org. Every time you support the SPCA of Texas—whether by coming out to our wonderful events, through a donation, by volunteering your time or by simply spreading the word about the great work we do—you support the animals and people we serve. We’re the voice for the animals who cannot speak for themselves. And we humbly thank you for making our work possible.

  • The SPCA of Texas is proud to announce that it has been chosen as a Hill's Pet Nutrition's "Food, Shelter & Love" shelter, to collaborate with Hill's Pet Nutrition (Hill's), a leading partner in animal welfare. The first "Welcome Home" adoption drive this January will help shelter pets find loving homes. Hill's will partner with participating shelters nationwide and contribute up to $130,000 to offset adoption costs. The campaign kicks off with a "Welcome Home" float in the 2025 Rose Parade Parade® presented by American Honda Motor Company, Inc., a collaboration with long-term shelter partner Pasadena Humane. The float depicts the 'best day ever' for pets that are welcomed home on adoption day, celebrating the joy and companionship pets bring to our lives. In an effort to alleviate the strain on shelters, Hill's is teaming up with 13 shelters across the country to cover adoption fees up to $100 per dog or cat from Thursday, Jan. 2 to Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. To help newly adopted pets get a healthy start, Hill's will also provide a free starter bag of Hill's Science Diet and high-value coupons for their next bag (while supplies last). • There’s still time for you to meet your new best friend! The SPCA of Texas Home For The Holidays Adoption Pavilion at NorthPark Center is open until 6 p.m. today! We are grateful to adopter Mason who saved money over the past year to donate $200 to the SPCA of Texas! He made a special trip to the Adoption Pavilion this weekend to make the donation. Mason’s family adopted a dog from us during Home For The Holidays last year. SPCA of Texas CEO & President Chris Luna was on hand at NorthPark Center to accept the generous donation and to thank Mason for his kindness! Below are images of Mason and Chris; Mason’s letter; last year’s adoption; and a current image of Mason and his best friend! #AdoptNeverShop #PetsAreFamily #TodaysTheDay #NorthParkCenter #HomeForTheHolidays

  • On Tuesday, December 17, the SPCA of Texas assisted law enforcement as they served a warrant on a property in Kaufman County, Texas, resulting in the organization taking custody of 50 roosters, 43 hens, 34 adult dogs, and 10 puppies. The animals were discovered during an unrelated investigation. The owner relinquished custody at the scene, and the SPCA of Texas is now investigating potential cases of dogfighting and cockfighting. The animals are currently under the care of the SPCA of Texas, where they are being evaluated, treated, and cared for. As appropriate, the dogs will be evaluated for adoption or placement on a case-by-case basis. Your support rescues hundreds of animals just like these. What’s more, all gifts made through December 31 DOUBLE in impact! Support abused, neglected, and homeless animals today. Visit https://lnkd.in/gDj8quEx #endanimalcruelty

  • The holiday season is a joyous time for family and friends to get together to share delicious meals and happy celebrations that make for lasting memories. Pets are important family members whose health needs to be taken into consideration when planning festivities and time away. The SPCA of Texas recommends the following tips to make your pets’ holiday season fun and safe. Be aware of decorations! Pets may be enticed by sparkling ornaments or shiny tinsel, so keep decorations out of reach of curious pets. Some decorations may be harmful if ingested and cause health problems like intestinal blockages. Keep the water in your Christmas tree stand covered. Tree water is often infested with fertilizer, bacteria and other harmful elements. Make sure candles and other unprotected flames are not within your pets' reach. Spilled wax can cause burns if a curious cat or dog bumps into a candle, and a flickering flame begs to be sniffed, pawed at and knocked over. And, as the temperature begins to drop, the SPCA of Texas reminds you that pets belong inside when it's too cold outside! If they can't come in, here are a few pointers to keep them safe in bad weather. Make sure outdoor animals have a dry, draft-free shelter that is large enough for them to move comfortably, but small enough to hold in body heat. The floor should be raised a few inches from the ground and covered with cedar shavings or straw, as blankets will get wet and very cold. The doorway should be covered with waterproof burlap or heavy plastic. These are only a few of our safety tips. • Santa came early to the SPCA of Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center in the form of Gordon Mattison! On behalf of the Women’s Christian Group in Waxahachie, Texas, Gordon delivered tote bag after tote bag of Care Center necessities—for the Center and for the shelter pets. In addition to tons of toys, Gordon brought lots of dishwashing soap, peanut butter, shampoo, blankets, towels and treats. Ellis County Santa drives a big, bright yellow truck emblazoned with a photo of his beloved Boxer, Nash (a.k.a. Roo Roo), who Gordon adopted from the ECACC more than eight years ago. It was love at first sight for both of them! What a happy Christmas this will be for our shelter pets in Waxahachie thanks to the generosity of a loving group of women and their Santa! Pictured in the first photo below are: (L-R) Animal Care Center Techs Ashlee Lowe, Janelle Anderson, and Diana Mendez sorting the donations. In the second photo we see Rudolph and his toy; 3rd and 4th pics are Snuffle picking and playing with her toy; 5th is sweet Vixen picking his toy; and the 6th photo is: (L-R) Ellis County Animal Care Center Manager Cynthia Brown, Animal Care Center Tech Laura Giesecke and Gordon Mattison (a.k.a Santa). And a few photos of the ECACC shelter pets picking out their toys! #ThankYou #WomensChristianGroup #Santa #Grateful #PetsAreFamily #PetsPickingToys
