Investing in essential technologies that power the world's largest industries.
About us
Space Capital is a seed-stage venture capital firm specializing in space-based technologies and their applications, i.e. the essential technologies that power the world's largest industries today. We understand the space economy at a fundamentally deeper level than our peers: our partners have built rockets, satellites, and operating systems. We have founded companies with assets currently in orbit and have led multiple exits as founders/operators (the latest was a $500M sale to Google). We've been pioneering investment in this category for 10+ years and now we've literally written the book on the subject with The Space Economy, published by Wiley.

In a recent article for Forbes, CEO of dataplor Geoff Michener discusses how high-quality location data is critical for navigating regulatory changes, such as California’s new $20 minimum wage law. Key insights include: • Using point-of-interest (POI) data to respond effectively to policy shifts. • Avoiding costly mistakes by ensuring real-time data accuracy. • Integrating geospatial data into core business operations. The financial impact of inaccurate data is significant: Gartner estimates annual losses of $12.9 million per company, while IBM pegs the global cost at $3.1 trillion. Accurate data isn’t just a tool for compliance; it’s a strategic asset that can unlock market opportunities and optimize decision-making. As space becomes increasingly vital to our global economy and defense—much like the oceans were to Great Britain centuries ago—the need for effective space traffic management has never been more critical. With a surge in satellite launches aiming for key orbits, the risk of collisions is escalating, potentially disrupting services that we depend on. At the #SpaceCapitalSummit, we hosted a compelling panel discussion titled “Space Jam: Traffic and Coordination.” Moderated by our Managing Partner, Chad Anderson, the panel brought together leaders in the space economy to explore strategies for safeguarding our critical space infrastructure. Panelists included: • Richard DalBello, Director of the Office of Space Commerce • Peter Marquez, Head of Global Space Policy at Amazon Web Services (AWS) • Tony Frazier, CEO of LeoLabs • Siamak Hesar, CEO of Kayhan Space The discussion centered around international efforts and innovative solutions to manage space traffic effectively, ensuring the sustainability and security of the space economy.
