A quarter of homeowners are prioritising energy efficiency improvements. Popular upgrades include loft insulation (48%), solar panels (33%) and double glazing (35%). More than half aim to cut long-term energy use, while a fifth hope to boost property value. As the festive season approaches, many are cutting back. Two-fifths are reusing decorations and over half are skipping new Christmas trees. Sustainability and savings are top of mind for households bracing for higher costs this winter. Careful use of heater controls help you keep your heating bills in check. But by having all your radiators turned down but your thermostat up high you could be wasting money on gas and not feeling the benefit. Your thermostat tells your boiler when to run and when to stop. If you have modulating controls, it will also tell your boiler how hard it should work. Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) have a different purpose, though. They decide how warm a room should be before radiator valves close and hot water doesn't run through a radiator anymore. They allow for control of your heating room-by-room. A new low-carbon heating network supplying civic buildings in Bradford city centre will act as a “blueprint” for similar schemes across the country, it is claimed. The Bradford Heat Network will use air source heat pumps to warm water, which is then run through underground pipes to customers. Due for completion by 2027, work has now started to link the University of Bradford and Bradford College to the network. Developer 1Energy said the "flagship project" in Bradford would “provide a blueprint to decarbonise cities and towns nationally”. Source: BBC News #SmartGen #AI #SmartEnergy #EnergyBill #Heating

The UK government urgently needs to tackle the high cost of electricity, the interim chair of the Climate Change Committee has said, warning this is hindering the country’s ability to meet green targets. Piers Forster, head of the independent body that advises the government on climate change, said the UK’s rollout of renewables had been a success story, but the push for greater electrification in areas such as heating and transport was being hampered by elevated electricity prices. “If you can reduce the price of electricity, you can then really make heat pumps and electric vehicles and electrifying industries more attractive,” Forster told the Financial Times.
