At Sharecare, we have a long-standing tradition of supporting causes that align with our mission to help people live healthier, happier lives. And for the last several years, we have chosen to “share care” with an incredibly deserving organization whose work is making a difference in young lives each and every day: the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research.    While cancer is the leading cause of disease-related death in children, only 4% of the National Institutes of Health’s cancer research budget goes to pediatric cases. Thankfully, Rally is on a mission to find better treatments for childhood cancer with fewer long-term side effects and, ultimately, cures; and the foundation addresses this crucial need by empowering volunteers across the country to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. Ahead of this Friday’s annual Rally Benefit Bash – which generates nearly 30% of Rally’s funding each year – our VP of marketing operations, Derek Fulford, writes on the Sharecare blog about Rally’s impact, including the story of “Rally Kid” Dre, a brave 14-year-old who has been battling brain cancer since 2019 and is now in hospice care. He reflects on a recent multi-partner effort to bring Dre a moment of joy, when we teamed up with the Atlanta Hawks and others to curate an unforgettable night that highlighted the power of community and compassion. When Sharecare members set out to improve their health and well-being, our coaches are there to provide the support they need to make the small, simple steps that become long-term healthy habits. This month, our Employee Spotlight is Jhana Chambers, a health coach whose inspiring story has not only improved the lives of the members she’s served during her nearly two years at Sharecare, but also uplifts our team. Helping others find peace in their health challenges and chronic pain – and even talking down a suicidal member on a call – Jhana is a remarkable member of the Sharecare family we are all proud to know. After surviving a life-threatening car accident at age 25, Jhana shares that her experiences haven’t dimmed her spirit, but instead have inspired her to uplift others by encouraging them to shift their perspective. Finding ways to add beauty and humor to her circumstances, Jhana shares how her blinged-out “pimp cane” and the wheelchair she affectionately refers to as her “Hot Wheels” allow her to view the situation differently. 🇺🇸 This Veterans Day, we honor and commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of our military service members. Sharecare takes pride in our many colleagues, friends, family, and clients who are veterans, and we extend our deepest gratitude for their service to our country.    Among the many remarkable individuals we honor today, is Jami Veskerna, a US Army veteran and operations team supervisor at Sharecare, who supports our in-home care CareLinx programs for the Department of Veterans Affairs. When asked about these innovative healthcare programs, Jami shared her gratitude for the opportunity to use her unique skills and experiences to positively impact the lives of veterans and their families.    “CareLinx has provided a platform for me to serve our military veteran families where I am able to honor their service and sacrifice with dignity, compassion, and empathy,” Jami explained, underscoring her gratitude for a supportive and fulfilling work environment – where she’s able to continue to serve others. “I use my leadership skills and training from my time of service to lead with confidence, collaborate with veterans, and manage change effectively.”     Today we also remember the nation’s 5.5 million family caregivers who provide critical support to our national heroes. Tending to the wounded, ill, and injured warriors with home-based care, these dedicated individuals enable our service members and veterans to remain healthy at home.    In addition to providing respite to these family caregivers, Sharecare’s home care services also support veterans to maintain their independence and continue living in the comfort of their homes. According to a report from AARP released in April, among the nearly 48 million family caregivers in the US, 61% are working while juggling their caregiving responsibilities. Additionally, most family caregivers provide at least 20 hours of care each week – equal to an unpaid part-time job. In the US, caregivers provide billions in value of unpaid care. This #NationalFamilyCaregiverMonth we recognize, honor, and thank those who provide care for our nation’s family members, friends, and neighbors in need.
