  • On behalf of SEE Renewal, I want to recognize those that we serve. I am truly humbled to work with such smart, strong, resilient, and proud people. Every day I am amazed with all that Indian Country is doing. Tribal governments are making tough decisions day in and day out to protect their people, culture, and political sovereignty. Tribal staff, members, and supporters work tirelessly to protect lands and resources and cultivate strong communities. It’s inspiring to see so many amazing native-owned businesses and tribally owned enterprises doing innovative work that is sure to influence extraordinary change with impactful and beneficial ripple effects for years to come. I am truly saddened by history and continuations of the societal and institutional complexities that challenge tribes and their members. I know there is no external or outside action great enough to right such a significant series of wrongs. But please know that I will continue to work hard to support you, my friends. Thank you for being a role model of endurance. #tribal #consulting #tribalgovernment #planning #land #Indigenous #tribalconsulting

  • At the end of a productive week-long series of onsite planning sessions with the Hoopa Valley Tribe in Hoopa, California, I learned last Friday that both my home and office were spared from the South Fork fire. I returned to Ruidoso early yesterday morning to see with my own eyes just how close the fire came. It traveled within feet of the North Creek Professional Complex on Mechem Drive where SEE Renewal’s office is located. The office has extreme smoke damage, but I am beyond grateful that everything was spared. Anyone that knows me knows that my work is my life, so I am truly thankful. My home is in Upper Canyon, and it was also spared somehow. Aside from slight smoke damage in the breezeway, everything is okay. The destruction in and around Ruidoso, Alto Lakes, and Mescalero is heartbreaking. It is my understanding that the fires claimed over 1,500 structures in the Ruidoso area alone. Much needed rains now pose flooding risk to the vegetation, homes, and businesses located within the burn scar areas. As I was driving to work this morning, I saw multiple businesses and homes that were spared by the fire but are now severely damaged and inhabitable due to flooding. Although I know that flooding still poses great risk to my home and the office, I have a profound feeling of gratitude and sadness. I am thankful my family and friends, my dog Stuart, my personal property, and my business are safe at this time, yet I simultaneously feel great sorrow for those who lost their lives because of this event and for those who lost their family, animals, property, and businesses. It will take time for government, businesses, and residents to recover from this. Tourism makes up a significant portion of our local economy. I am fortunate that I can continue working and am committed to giving back to the local community by offering my skillsets and services in-kind to both the Village of Ruidoso and the Mescalero Apache Tribe to assist them in accessing resources needed to help with their unique recovery needs. I cannot thank the wildland firefighters and local emergency personnel enough for their diligent and tireless work. They placed themselves in grave danger for days to protect so much of the threatened areas. It is my fervent hope that the affected communities and the Mescalero Apache Tribe experience a quick recovery from this tragic disaster. Thank you again to my clients, industry colleagues, employees, and friends for all your concern, support, and prayers, which helped me manage this experience. I am truly touched by your support.

Founder and Principal Consultant at SEE Renewal, LLC

I want to send a sincere thanks to all my clients, colleagues and acquaintances that have reached out to me during this time. Your concern, support and prayers mean a lot to me. I took the attached photos between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Monday as I was trying to get to my home and as I was evacuating my office. Evacuation orders remain in effect for the Village of Ruidoso and surrounding areas. It is my understanding that the fire went right up to my office and home, though I have not seen either in person. My thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected and a big thank you to the fire fighters and other emergency personnel for protecting the community.
