Ever feel like you're battling uphill when presenting treatment plans to patients? The problem might not be what you're saying—it might be how you're saying it. The words we use shape the mindset of our patients. When a patient hears repeated reassurances that nothing seems wrong (“Does it hurt? No? Any sensitivity? No?”), they subconsciously conclude there’s no urgency to act. That can lead to hesitation, mistrust, or simply no action at all. Here’s a subtle but powerful shift: introduce the word "yet." Instead of: “Does it hurt when you chew?” Try: “Does it hurt when you chew yet?” Adding “yet” changes the narrative. It signals to the patient that while there may not be an issue today, it’s likely to arise if untreated. Suddenly, the urgency to act now becomes clear, and they’re more open to accepting your recommendations. Small tweaks in language can lead to big changes in patient outcomes. Are you using the power of words to guide your patients to say “yes”?

What a year it’s been—and I keep coming back to the amazing experience we shared at the Sunrise Summit this fall. The Broadmoor gave us the perfect backdrop, but what made it truly special were the people. The energy, the connections, the shared commitment to growth—it reminded me just how lucky I am to be part of this incredible community. I couldn’t be more grateful to my team at Sunrise Dental Solutions. Their hard work and dedication turned an event into something unforgettable. As we close out the year, I’m carrying that sense of inspiration into 2025. If the Summit taught me anything, it’s that with the right people and mindset, the possibilities are endless.

Playing to win or just playing not to lose? Every expanding practice reaches a point where comfort and growth can no longer coexist. If you want to grow, here’s the truth: you need to stop “playing it safe” and start “playing to win.” Just like in sports, where teams can lose momentum if they play defensively, a defensive approach in dentistry can mean missed opportunities. Here’s what a growth mindset for your practice should look like: • Invest in People and Systems: Don’t view these as costs—they’re what keep your practice running smoothly as you expand. With a strong support team and efficient systems, you’ll achieve more with less stress. • Step Out of Your Comfort Zone: Growth requires stretching beyond what’s comfortable. Embrace that leap; it’s where the magic happens. • Develop a Team That Can Run Independently: A self-sufficient team allows you to focus on scaling, so you’re not bogged down by daily tasks. If you’re ready to grow, remember: it starts with mindset. Share what growth mindset shifts have helped your practice succeed!
