‘Tis the season, and SAN is in full holiday spirit! This year, I’ve had the pleasure of serving as a judge for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority’s annual Tenant Holiday Decorating contest. It was so much fun joining with my colleagues from Terminal Operations and the Arts Program (Tiffany Beres 龐惠英, PhD , Emil Segura , and Illyse Martinez-Kaldani ) marveling at the festive and imaginative decor created by our airlines, concessions, and TSA tenants. If you are making your way in or out town at San Diego International Airport this time of year, I hope you take the time to appreciate how our tenants make the terminals feel festive and inviting for passengers and employees. And as always, I’m grateful anytime I get out of the administrative building to experience the energy of our terminals and see how our airport comes together to celebrate the season. We are happy to welcome Caltrans District 11 Director Ann Fox to the Airport Authority Board. Ann Fox has an extensive background in planning, design, project management and traffic operations, and has implemented complex transportation projects within San Diego and Imperial Counties. She will be serving on the Board as an ex officio member. Welcome Ann!

The Airport Consortium on Transformation (ACT) is our innovation program, bringing together a network of 46 airports and 19 corporate partners to address key aviation challenges. Through the four collaborative task forces, ACT drives innovation in airport electrification, digitization, advanced air mobility, and artificial intelligence. We also foster industry engagement through airport site visits and targeted grant initiatives. Our mission is to create actionable solutions by leveraging experience and expertise across the industry to embrace emerging technologies and meet future demands. During a recent Consortium workshop on sustainability, representatives from Los Angeles World Airports (LAX), San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SAN), and Schneider Electric highlighted the value of programs like ACT in uniting industry stakeholders to foster innovation, collaboration, and meaningful outcomes for aviation. Last month, the Take Flight committee came together once again to host and engage with future aviation professionals through the non-profit org Project Next. It’s always exciting to see students explore career possibilities and learn about the many opportunities available at San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. As we wrap up the year, I want to take a moment to thank my fellow committee members for their hard work, dedication, and creativity. Your efforts make all the difference, and I’m so grateful to be part of a team that is so passionate about making a positive impact. Next year marks an incredible milestone for the Take Flight initiative—celebrating 10 years of connecting with high school and college students across the San Diego County! Since 2015, over 800 students have had the chance to visit the Airport Authority and explore the lesser known paths of aviation. I couldn’t be prouder to part of such an accomplish at San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. Wishing my Take Flight committee team members a joyous and restful holiday season.
