This month marks the 21st annual National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM), a call to action to recognize and respond to the prevalent, dangerous, and frequently misunderstood crime of stalking. 81% of women stalked by a current or former partner were also physically assaulted by that partner. Stalking increases the risk of intimate partner homicide by 3X. About us
Who We Are SCCADVASA is the statewide coalition of organizations providing intervention services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and Primary Prevention programs to students and communities across the state. Our Work We work towards ending domestic and sexual violence in South Carolina and beyond through engaging individuals and communities in advocacy, collaboration and education. We advocate for the transformative social change that will result in a society free of violence, push for policy changes that support survivors, and provide education and technical assistance to build the capacity of our members, allied organizations and communities to provide trauma-informed and survivor-centered services. Our Hope Our hope is for community in which prevention work is our focus—a commitment to prevent sexual and domestic violence from occurring in the first place—where we can center our work on the building of healthy relationship practices rather than the aftermath of violence. Everyone has the right to live in a community where respect and trust form the core of relationships and fear has no place to thrive.

Online dating and dating apps have become popular ways for young adults to meet new people: however, safety and privacy should be a priority when navigating these spaces. The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV)'s Safety Net recently partnered with eleven24 to develop a Safer Dating Profile Guide providing tips to help young people increase their profile privacy while dating online and offering practical suggestions for advocates to share with teens exploring online relationships. ➡️ Access the toolkit: https://loom.ly/O_eEkR8 #OnlineSafety #EndSexualAssault #EndDatingViolence #TechSafety #Prevenion

Since the pandemic, domestic violence incidents in Hawaii’s West O’ahu community have increased by 40 percent. The area’s critical shortage of affordable housing and high cost of living can make it difficult for victims to be able to leave their abuser. High unemployment, limited transportation, and lack of mental health providers also create barriers to breaking generational cycles of abuse. ➡️ Read more: https://loom.ly/ujW9aVk #EndDV #EndIPV #SupportSurvivors #AffordableHousing #HousingIsHealth #SurvivorHousing

Domestic violence victims living in rural areas can face increased barriers to seeking help according to a study by the Center for Rural Pennsylvania which surveyed survivors across the PA commonwealth. Victims feared that word of their abuse would spread within their small community where abusers often have connections to law enforcement and others within a survivor's safety net. Rural areas may also lack access to resources such as health care, public transportation, and cell phone coverage making it more difficult for survivors to get help. ➡️ Learn more: https://loom.ly/oTwAM_Y #SupportSurvivors #EndDV #EndIPV #Rural

Survivors of domestic violence are nearly twice as likely to suffer depressive symptoms compared to those who have not experienced domestic abuse. As we mark the winter solstice tomorrow -- the first day of winter and the longest night of the year – we stand with survivors healing from the darkness of trauma and abuse in hopes that the day after will be brighter, and the next day brighter still. #YouAreNotAlone #SupportSurvivors #MentalHealth #TraumaHealing #SurvivorHealing
