We are thrilled to announce that Jackie Schalk will begin as the Saint-Gaudens Memorial's first-full time Executive Director on January 2, 2025! Her career began in New York City at the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, a nonprofit organization that augments National Park Service operations at the iconic site. For fifteen years, she served as Director of the American Family Immigration History Center, a department of the Foundation that has long been at the core of the Ellis Island experience and helps about 100,000 people per year research their family histories. Jackie subsequently held senior development positions with the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, American Ancestors, and most recently, the Handel and Haydn Society in Boston. She will increase our connection with the Upper Valley community and deepen our ability to engage audiences through our exhibitions, concerts, and programs, as well as augment support to the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park. Welcome, Jackie!

On August 3rd, we honor the legacy of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who passed away on this day in 1907. Starting in 1885, the Saint-Gaudens family turned their summer trips to Cornish, New Hampshire, into a creative haven, sparking the Cornish Art Colony. Saint-Gaudens transformed a simple barn into his workspace, eventually building multiple studios for his sculptural production. After a cancer diagnosis in 1900, he made 'Aspet' his permanent home, where he continued his work until his death. Today, the Saint-Gaudens Memorial and Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park collaborate to preserve his legacy, interpreting his home, artwork, properties, and life. #cornish #newhampshire #local #saintgaudens #augustussaintgaudens #cornishNH

Athena LaTocha’s exhibition, ‘Lightning Strikes Twice,’ is on view in the Picture Gallery now! LaTocha , 2023 Saint-Gaudens Fellow, commented, “I’ve always been interested in art that is rooted in our world, and the times in which we live, because that is the terrain where the stakes are greatest. In this world, nothing is quite as it seems. There is a sense of disquiet that permeates the land. My drawings are created for spaces where a person can go into another world and have an experience.” See this exhibition during your next visit to Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park through August 7. #cornish #newhampshire #local #saintgaudens #augustussaintgaudens #cornishNH #travel #myparkstory #athenalatocha #uppervalley
