Big news in the progressive tech space: MoveOn is switching from Action Kit to Action Network when its current contract expires in mid-2025. In an interview with Micah L. Sifry in The Connector newsletter, MoveOn staff shared that the decision was directly tied to Action Kit's private equity ownership and track record of laying off key staff. "Due to the consolidation of core progressive technology platforms under the private equity owned firm Bonterra, coupled with repeated company layoffs and restructuring over recent years, we believe it’s in the best interest of our organization’s long-term sustainability and risk management to move in a new direction," MoveOn’s chief technology and data officer Amy White told Sifry. "Given our history with them, we wouldn’t be surprised if they attempted to make cuts again," added MoveOn’s chief of digital membership experience Erica M.. Notably, MoveOn will be joining Action Network's Product Development Committee alongside the AFL-CIO, Canada’s Central Labor Committee, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and Daily Kos. This represents a major commitment to Action Network and to investing in progressive tech infrastructure that is owned and operated by progressives.
