Happy #NationalBirdDay! 🐦⬛🐦🦅🦉 Herons, like this Snowy Egret, that call the Hudson River estuary home are indicators of a healthy ecosystem! These skilled fishers rely on clean water and thriving wetlands to hunt and nest. Easily identified by their striking long legs, sharp beaks, and fluid movements, herons are a social species, and typically nest in colonies. Herons are just one of the many beautiful bird species that Riverkeeper works to protect year-round. #Herons #BirdWatching #HudsonRiver #BirdLovers #NatureLovers #Riverkeeper #BirdConservation #BirdWatchingCommunity #WaterBirds #SnowyEgret

🌊 Riverkeeper and Newtown Creek Alliance recently hosted a webinar with nearly 70 attendees including city and state officials, representatives from Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez and State Senator Kristen Gonzalez's offices, and community members. The focus: NYC’s proposed changes to reduce sewer overflows into Newtown Creek over the next two decades. 💧 The plan will increase sewage capture and treatment, improving water quality while ensuring overflows aren’t diverted to other parts of the city. Riverkeeper supports the plan and will work with the community to advocate for further improvements to eliminate sewage contamination entirely. 📽 Watch the full webinar here: https://lnkd.in/eFhgkvwJ #NewtownCreek #CleanWater #NYC #WaterQuality #SewageManagement #EnvironmentalAdvocacy #Riverkeeper #SustainableNYC
