Big win for conservation! 🌎👉 https://lnkd.in/exGMykxV A new bipartisan bill just passed the U.S. Senate to create the U.S. Foundation for International Conservation (USFIC), unlocking major funding to protect wildlife and natural resources across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Led by Senators Chris Coons and Lindsey Graham, and Representatives Michael McCaul, Gregory Meeks, and Dave Joyce, the act establishes a foundation to support local communities and Indigenous Peoples in managing protected and conserved areas worldwide. This initiative will leverage U.S. government funds alongside private and philanthropic contributions to provide consistent funding for global conservation efforts. By supporting those who safeguard our planet's most vulnerable ecosystems, this act represents a significant step toward preserving biodiversity and combating climate change. #Conservation #Biodiversity #USFICA

🐃 Supporting Indigenous Leadership to Save the Tamaraw. The Critically Endangered Tamaraw, or Mindoro Dwarf Buffalo, shares its home with the Indigenous Taobuid and Alangan peoples of Mindoro, Philippines. With only around 300 individual animals left in the wild, the Tamaraw plays a vital role in the ecosystem but faces severe threats from habitat degradation, infrastructure development and hunting. In collaboration with Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. and D'Aboville Foundation, Re:wild is scaling up Tamaraw conservation across Mindoro’s highlands by 2029, blending Indigenous land stewardship with modern conservation efforts. With support from the UK Darwin Initiative, this phase will: ✅ Amplify Indigenous land management to preserve their way of life. ✅ Harmonize Indigenous-led and state-led conservation. ✅ Address external threats to Tamaraw habitats. ✅ Create lasting capacity for the long-term conservation of the Tamaraw. This effort supports both the species and the communities that have coexisted with the Tamaraw for generations. 💚 #Rewild #Tamaraw #Conservation #IndigenousLeadership

✌️🐦 Thanks to a Re:wild associate, new surveys along the Guyana–Brazil border have revealed a population stronghold for two threatened songbird species. 🟢 Brian O'Shea is an ornithologist specializing in birds of northeastern South America, and is a Re:wild associate - a program that cultivates and supports the next generation of conservation leaders throughout their careers. Brian and local conservationists from SRCS surveyed over 130 miles of riverbanks, confirming new populations of both the Hoary-throated Spinetail and the Rio Branco Antbird on Guyana's Takutu and Ireng Rivers. Both species were locally abundant on both sides of the international border between Guyana and Brazil. These new findings signal this region has the potential to safeguard these species if effective conservation measures are implemented. Re:wild supports the proposed establishment of a #KeyBiodiversityArea to encompass the vital habitats to protect these songbirds. Beef production is fueling deforestation globally—and Australia is no exception. Over half the country's land is used for grazing, with some of the most at-risk forests cleared for space to raise cattle. This impacts habitats of threatened species like Koalas and Pink Cockatoos. https://lnkd.in/eJhWD8aG Australia’s beef industry is a major driver of deforestation, with over 16,000 hectares of forest cleared in recent years to make way for cattle. The Australian Conservation Foundation is urging supermarkets like Coles and Woolworths to commit to deforestation-free beef sourcing, following in the footsteps of international brands like Aldi and Tesco. It's time to shift away from the destructive practices of animal agriculture and invest in sustainable alternatives that protect our planet's forests and wildlife. #Deforestation #SustainableFood #EndAnimalAgriculture #RewildYourFridge
