Head of Sales @ ResortPass | Enabling day access to the hotel industry

The best feeling when you moderate a panel is when the audience is still asking questions up until the final minute! I’m hugely appreciative to Jessica Shea, Derek Harasiuk and Christoph McLaughlin for offering their perspectives on the massive opportunity of day guesting.

  • Our ILHA panel, “Tapping the Potential of the Day Guest”, is full of industry heavyweights. We're excited to share that Liam Larkin will moderate the panel featuring hospitality leaders who each have their own take on the potential of the day guest: Jessica Shea - Hear her perspective on how hotels can look beyond the spa to deliver a great wellness experience. Christoph McLaughlin - Ask him about the portfolio review he led that added over $80m of AUM by standardizing revenue streams across assets. Derek Harasiuk - Learn how Caesars seeks to create memorable experiences in addition to memorable overnight stays. Be sure to catch us at the Engage Stage at 10:45 AM on Thursday, December 5th at ILHA Inspire!

You can catch Liam moderating our panel, “Tapping the Potential of the Day Guest” with soon-to-be announced panelists from Hilton, Caesars Entertainment, and Ashford Inc. Christina Daly builds strategic partnerships with ownership groups, flags, and management groups. Talk to her about how your portfolio properties can offer experiences for day guests. Harrison Thomas works directly with hotel properties to design top-tier day guest experiences that make the most of existing amenities. Business Reporter at The Washington Post

Need something to distract from the election news cycle? Check out my latest for The Washington Post about a growing trend in the hospitality industry: day passes that let people use hotel amenities without renting a room. As vacationers rein in their spending and take trips closer to home, hotels have struggled with rising labor costs and the pullback on travel spending. Those factors — and a drop in occupancy rates at the height of the pandemic — have fueled a new business model for the hospitality industry. Thousands of hotels, particularly in popular tourist destinations like Florida and Hawaii, now rent their pools, spas, office spaces and cabanas to guests without requiring them to reserve a room. Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott International, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and more of the biggest chains have jumped on the trend by partnering with ResortPass, a site that facilitates day-pass booking between consumers and resorts that has tripled its business over the past two years as consumers shortened their vacations. And the trend is here to stay, according to hospitality consultant and former hotel manager Anthony Melchiorri. “People are looking for different ways to get away for a half day, and for the hotels and resorts, things aren’t getting any cheaper,” Melchiorri said. “Every space in that hotel, if it’s not being used at every moment, it can be used. It’s a perishable item. It goes to waste." https://lnkd.in/gG6TBpHp

  • We’re thrilled to be featured in The Washington Post! The hospitality industry is embracing the day pass, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of this experience that Jessica Shea, VP of Wellness at Hilton, called a “win-win”. It’s a win for day guests like Melanie Alano, a Honolulu resident profiled in the article, who said, “When you’re next to the people that are on vacation, it makes you feel like you’re on vacation.” It’s a win for hotels, too. As Jessica Shea said, the trend of offering day passes has boomed as value-hungry consumers search for experiences that promote self-care and wellness. At ResortPass, we hear everyday from our over 1,800 partner hotels about what makes the day guest so valuable (yes - 100 more hotels since we sat down with the Post!). It comes down to:  - New revenue streams from underutilized amenities - Significant F&B spending from day guests - Introductions to new travelers who later become overnight guests - Stronger connections to the local community As we head into the holiday travel season, we expect a surge of travelers to add day passes at extraordinary properties into their itineraries. Thank you Hannah Ziegler for sharing more about this growing trend that’s here to stay.
