So, it's Christmas Eve! 🎄 Most shops are closed, why would anyone be out and #TuesdayaboutTown? Well, they might be a ghost, trying to convince a grumpy old miser to pay his employees fairly and give generously to those in need... or they could be on their way to one of the wonderful Oasis UK Pantries! 🥘 Many food banks are open throughout the Christmas period (though with some closing on Christmas Day itself), including those run by Oasis 🌴 As it happens, a number of Oasis Pantries are actually run through local churches as part of the Oasis Church Network - the Oasis Hub, part of our Bath Web, is one of these! Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, anyone? 🌰 That's right, this #TuesdayaboutTown we're shining a light on our friends over at The Collective Sharehouse in York – and lately, they're all about that festive food... 🍲 The Sharehouse supports their community year round with the motto "give as you can, take as you need", offering food and household essentials 🧼 At Christmas though, they really go the extra mile to make the season bright for those in need - thanks to a generous donation of handcrafted hosiery and some sweet treats from the local York Steiner School, they'll even be able to make up Christmas stockings for the children The Sharehouse supports 🧦 If you're in the York area, whether you're in need or could afford to give some time (or donate a few festive goodies!), why not check The Sharehouse out this week? If someone is "in recovery" it means they are healing from or learning to manage an illness - often referring to a substance use disorders or other mental health condition 🧠 Sadly, such conditions are still often stigmatised, which can stall the recovery process December may be an especially difficult month for recovery: what with the limited daylight, potentially heightened family tensions, and increased advertisement of alcohol... 🙄 Whether you're in recovery yourself or support someone who is, it might be a good idea to make a mental health plan for the festive season 💝 Do you know what resources are available to support members of your community who are in recovery? Walking in a winter wonderland... all through the streets of York! 🎶 This #TuesdayaboutTown we're stopping off at York In Recovery CIC to shine a light on the wonderful work they do in providing peer-support and a safe space for anyone seeking recovery from addiction 🕯️ York in Recovery is a community interest company that runs peer-led recovery cafés every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at local community hubs - drop-ins very much welcome ☕️ They also have a host of other initiatives including the Mixed Bag Players theatre company, the Naloxone Knights anti-overdose programme, the Serenity Garden allotment, the annual Recovery Games, and many more... 🎉 Looking for support or a chance to support others with York in Recovery? Ever heard of cyberpunk? Yeah, basically the opposite of that 👾 Solarpunk is an artistic and literary movement that envisions working towards or achieving a sustainable future, using science and technology as appropriate to help humanity and the planet 🔬 It's important, when we think about the future, that we don't just think about what could go wrong - we also need a plan for what going right could look like! That's where movements like solarpunk (or hopepunk) come in 🌱 Do you feel optimistic when you think about the future? In the short term?
