Thanks for citing Refactor in your post as an ideal example for how the craft of venture should persist, Patricia Wexler! 💪🏽😀
On the heels of an interesting post by Jamin Ball (https://lnkd.in/eJp4F3Vr), I put some thoughts together on the future of venture and why justifying massive AUM aggregation with the power law is wrong #venturecapital

Happy to share Refactor's $50M Fund 4 is online! 🙌 I’m grateful to our existing investors who contributed 90% of the capital 💰. With this fund - entirely raised from US 🇺🇸 investors, I plan to continue writing lead pre-seed and seed checks into bio 💊 , climate 🌲 , and other hard tech 🏗 startups. Being a solo GP allows me to move fast, build trust quickly, and work closely with founders reshaping industries. I enjoy being super responsive, whether it’s minor questions or major fire drills. As some have amusingly said, #BetterCallZal ☎ #VC #SeedInvestment #SoloGP #Startup Thank you TechCrunch and Christine Hall for covering our news:

Massive congrats to Solugen for securing a nearly $214M💰💰loan commitment from the DOE to onshore critical chemicals manufacturing using corn 🌽 and biology ☘ here in the US! 🇺🇸 This is the same group at DOE (LPO = Loan Programs Office) that awarded Tesla 🚗 a loan in 2010 to help launch their first mass market product, the Model S. This loan will be used to build the next Bioforge in Minnesota. Only a handful of startups have ever received a loan from the LPO!! Special shout out to Solugen's founders Gaurab Chakrabarti, MD, PhD and Sean Hunt for leading the charge! 😃 💪🏽
📰 Breaking News! Solugen has secured conditional commitment for a $213.6M loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office. This financing will support the construction of Bioforge Marshall, our new 500,000 square-foot biomanufacturing facility in Southwest Minnesota. The announcement marks a pivotal milestone in our scale-up journey and a landmark move for American industry. Solugen has now unlocked a critical step in executing our vision to deploy a domestic manufacturing network that brings sustainable solutions to market. We’re thrilled to join an elite group of impactful companies catalyzed by this DOE loan program. Of the companies that have reached this prestigious milestone, only 14 have been startups. Among these, Solugen is the first to successfully scale sustainable chemical manufacturing with our pioneering chemienzymatic technology. As we enter this next phase of growth, we look forward to continuing this important work alongside our customers, strategic partners, and investors. Thanks, Nina Bilimoria Angelo!
Proud twin moment: Zal Bilimoria made Business Insider's Seed 100 list today! (I'll forgive him for not mentioning me in the feature.) Zal stays true to his passion day in and day out by supporting entrepreneurs making a difference in our world. So well-deserved. https://lnkd.in/gjdgTS2a

Starting this week, I’m excited to be hosting small Refactor founder dinners🍲 at Burlingame’s new awesome vegan🥗 restaurant Twelve Month. It’s a beautiful space, one block from my office 🏢. Tomorrow’s group includes a handful of our bio founders building in therapeutics 🧬, devices❤️🩹, and diagnostics🔬. In a few weeks, we’ll have a climate founders dinner during SF Climate Week! 🌎 Future dinners will include both Refactor founders and those from the wider community. Building seed 🌱 stage companies can be lonely endeavors, so these events are a small way to bring these intrepid people together! 😀

Refactor had one of the busiest months ever in March! I invested💰in startups building cancer therapeutics 🧬, underwater data centers 🌊, novel biomaterials for faster healing ❤️🩹, and soil remediation 🌎. We also backed up the truck 🚛 in a few high-performing co’s. 🚀 Love this job!! 😀💪🏽
