Building the circular supply chain to power a sustainable world
About us
Redwood Materials is creating a circular supply chain to drive down the environmental footprint and cost of lithium-ion batteries and the electric vehicles and sustainable energy storage systems they power. Founded by JB Straubel, the Nevada-based company is offering large-scale sources of sustainable battery materials produced at scale in the U.S. for the first time. Redwood is ramping its Northern Nevada facility and has broken ground on its second Battery Materials Campus, outside Charleston, South Carolina. Both of Redwood’s campuses will recycle, refine, and manufacture battery materials, aiming to scale production to 100 GWh annually. More information is available at redwoodmaterials.com.

There are 334.9 million people in the U.S. If we each recycled just one old cell phone this year, we could produce enough materials to create more than 55,000 EVs annually. Learn more about why it’s important for our country to recycle our batteries: https://lnkd.in/efJTa63M

Thank you Benchmark Mineral Intelligence & Simon Moores for honoring JB with your Lifetime Achievement Award. Fascinating discussion at #BenchmarkWeek covering the election and the future of the battery supply chain and IRA, as well as an update on Redwood’s operations — we hope to share it soon!
🌎 JB Straubel of Redwood Materials receives the Benchmark Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 Back in 2014, the world was a very different place. A battery plant the size of a conference room would have been deemed big. But to go mass market, JB's vision of putting all the world's battery production under one roof, didn't just spark the giga-era but the beginnings of a mass scale electric vehicle industry we now see today. JB was instrumental developing the industry practices we now see in Tesla and the wider industry today: battery cell design, cell selection, supply chain management, and most crucially - The Gigafactory. If it wasn't for this gigafactory moment its a high probability our industry would have remained niche. Instead we had rapid and profound change. Of course, he is now taking on the next great giga challenge - battery recycling with Redwood Materials. JB’s award follows in the footsteps of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Stan Whittingham - the founding father of the lithium ion battery - at Benchmark Week 2023. Benchmark Mineral Intelligence

Despite being one of the largest consumers of lithium-ion batteries in the world, the U.S. only recycles 5% of them. Let’s change that! Find out where you can recycle with Redwood to help create a sustainable and secure energy future: https://bit.ly/3UO18Ja

We welcome the Automotive Recyclers Association convention to Reno, the biggest (not-so-little) battery recycling capital of the USA! Dismantlers and recyclers play a pivotal role in the automotive industry for end-of-life vehicles. As EV demand grows, we are working together to safely extract batteries, recover critical minerals, and build a sustainable supply chain for EVs.

We’re recovering batteries from fires, floods, and emergencies, recycling them almost infinitely, regardless of their condition. We’re assisting with hurricane cleanup, supported last year’s Maui fire recovery, and are addressing incidents on our roadways. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4h4wyV8

"With batteries proliferating in cars and homes and on the grid and everywhere else, it doesn't have to be an environmental mess at their end of life or in a disaster or a flood…There are some good solutions to recover that material and make sure it doesn't impact the environment any more than the natural disaster did in the first place.” Discover how we're aiding hurricane cleanup, supported last year’s Maui fire recovery, and are addressing thermal incidents on our roadways in our latest story with Forbes and on our blog: bit.ly/4h4wyV8
NEW: Redwood Materials, a battery recycling and components maker created by Tesla cofounder JB Straubel, has added electric vehicle packs that have been damaged by fires and floods to the range of products it's recovering to reuse the high-value metals contained within to make new lithium-ion cells. #electricvehicles #batteries
