Helping non-woke businesses find the right talent to grow their organization and culture!

It might be tough to hear, But too many businesspeople rely on this same tired strategy... Post and pray. Here’s the reality: your job posting is an online ad for your company—and, just like any ad, it needs to grab attention and resonate. Here’s how you can make that happen: 1. Get Marketing Involved Your job posting isn’t just a list of requirements—it’s a pitch. You’re selling candidates on: Why they should care about your business. Why they’ll love your culture. Why they should want to build something great with you. You’ll have time to screen for qualifications during the interview. For now, your job posting should clearly define the skills and character you're looking for and what makes your company a fantastic place to work. Keep the list of “must-haves” short and spend more time talking about your company’s culture and values. 2. Build Relationships Early Don’t wait until you’re desperate to start connecting with the kind of people you want to hire. Talk to people you’d love to hire long before you need them. Be present in your industry, build relationships, and keep those lines of communication open. 3. Be Proactive Waiting for applications to roll in isn’t enough anymore. Start doing outbound recruiting. Use tools like LinkedIn to reach out to ideal candidates. Being proactive keeps you ahead of the curve and ensures you’re never caught scrambling to fill a critical role. Big takeaway: Stop reacting and start acting. When you have a proactive hiring strategy, you’ll attract the right people, at the right time, for the right roles. ✅ You’ll never be caught unprepared when it's time to hire. Helping non-woke businesses find the right talent to grow their organization and culture!

Even Steve Jobs once said, “Why would you hire smart people and then tell them what to do?” It’s so easy to fool yourself into thinking people will respect you more if you always have the “best” idea and talk first and the loudest. But let me tell you, the more you can listen to others and THEN make informed decisions, the more your business will flourish and your employees and peers will respect you. I can’t stress enough how important humility is in business!

People problems don’t get better when you ignore them. They get better when you have those awkward conversations. I do want to clarify: Second chances are important. Teaching is important. Growth is important. But it does NOT help anyone to keep a struggling employee in a job where they’re not being successful. Nor is it helpful to your other employees to force them to work with someone who is hurting them through lack of productivity or a bad attitude. It doesn't help your business, and it definitely doesn't help their professional growth.

If you have toxic employees within your organization, you’ll have other employees who are scared to have meetings with them. You’ll have people who are spending time navigating discussions with those employees than actually executing. Your people will be spending time on politics. Not on execution. When you build a culture where people feel safe and excited to come to work, they won’t worry about dealing with other employees as much. When they’re not spending any time worrying, they’re spending time executing. If they don’t have to spend 15 minutes a day bickering or figuring out who’s trying to “ruin” them, they’re free to come up with new ideas and actually do the job they were hired to do.

Two must-dos to get ahead in today's labor market: 1. Build an employment brand. You need to think like a marketer. Treat your employment brand like your company brand—consistent visibility by your target audience (ideal candidates) matters. Candidates may need multiple touchpoints before engaging. You’ll need to identify your value proposition too.  Get out of the dollars and cents and show them why your company is worth working at. Is it joyful? Ambitious? Fun? Exciting? This can be ‘marketed’ through videos, websites, social media, etc.   2. You need to build a talent network. This means you’re building a “bench” of potential hires who know your company, are aligned with your values, and have the right skills for your company. Maybe they aren’t a perfect fit for one of your open jobs. Maybe you aren’t ready to hire. But having this bench will improve hiring success long term and ensure you aren’t forced to hire a bad fit out of desperation. I can almost guarantee these changes will solve a large chunk of your hiring problems. What do you think? Helping non-woke businesses find the right talent to grow their organization and culture!

What I see in 2025: Let's run a little thought experiment... Our economy is sick and needs some strong medicine to put it back on its feet. We have had 4 years of encroaching regulation, rampant government spending and expansion, and a largely checked-out labor market. If you had done this in your personal budget and wanted to fix it, what would you do? You would look at everything that you are doing and spending money on and make some hard decisions about what needs to stop (DOGE). This would be painful, but necessary.  Long-term you would be in a way better spot, but the short-term pain would be real. Now imagine that you are cutting, you know, $2 TRILLION out of your budget. If DOGE pulls this off, and I hope they will, there will be a lot of government employees out of a job and a lot of government contractors cutting their budgets as well. Now let's add the additional hard medicine of tariffs so that suddenly many of the inputs in our economy now cost more. I believe that Q1 and Q2 of 2025 are going to be hard on the economy. I think that Q3 will be flat and Q4 will start to see some of the benefits of the Trump-effect. I hope I am wrong, and I love the optimism that I am feeling in the freedom economy right now, but next year might have a slow start. Thoughts? What do you see happening in 2025?

People want to be loyal. Stop making it so hard for them to do it! Marxism is everywhere, and we don't even see it anymore. It shows up in the workplace by employers assuming that they have to have an adversarial relationship with their employees (the proletariat). If you as an employer, buck that trend and assume that your employees want to be loyal, treat them as team members with respect, you will find that they don't actually want to job hop. Even young people! They want a place where they can bring value and make money. Easy. Give them that place and your turnover will go down... Which will help you make more money and have more fun! Your welcome.

When you’re about to hire, make sure you think about two things... 1. The effect they’ll have on your business. 2. The effect you’ll have on them. People spend the vast majority of their waking hours at their place of work. This means the culture you set for your employees has a massive impact on your employees' lives and worldview. Don’t underestimate the drastic impact you can have on their lives!    Disagree? Agree? Let me know in the comments.

Helping non-woke businesses find the right talent to grow their organization and culture!

If you are worth your salt as a business owner, you are probably putting together (or have already put together) business plans for 2025... Hiring is often part of that plan. What will your team look like?  Who will you need to execute against the goals that you want to accomplish? Here are three pointers to keep in mind as you undergo this process: - Don't wait until the last min!  Good hiring takes 20-30 hours to do well. You don't want to wait until you are desperate to start. - Also, don't wait until the last min! Once you have found a great person, they probably need to give notice at their current job and, depending on the position, the new employee might not be productive at all until a more than a month after you hire them. - Last, don't wait until the last min! Planning ahead on hiring allows you to be more picky in the process and avoid a catastrophic hire. "Hire slowly and fire fast", requires you to significantly plan ahead if you don't want to policy to hurt your business. 💯
