𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡? Last year during a trip to our India offices, the most common question asked of me was “What’s the end game?” I wrote a post with my answer (see below). This year I was asked by someone in the Town Hall, “Why did you start Reach?” Very loaded question. Aside from the obvious financial motivation and the fun in disrupting the status quo, there were two things that drove me down this fun, long, winding and sometimes hard path. 1. Prompted by an ex-colleague while I was deciding between joining a PE firm or another company and he asked “What’s the story you want to tell your children?” 2. Create opportunities and an environment for people to grow personally and professionally, while enjoying doing what they do. How are we tracking? Well, let me share: #1: I feel very good about that. Building something from the ground up that my kids witnessed as they themselves grew up, I would do it all over again in a heart beat. #2: The team says it best. Here is some feedback in their own words (best of my recollection) from my speed-dating dozens of employees this past week. “I have worked at a few jobs before Reach and I am so thankful for being here. I feel so comfortable as a woman in tech in this company and would like to stay with Reach for as long as possible.” “I have been able to support and care for my elderly parents without compromising my professional growth over the past few years. The flexibility and culture to allow that in a start-up is amazing.” “I have come such a long way over the past few years. Just love it here!” We are fortunate to have had our security guard and kitchen helper since Day-1, who enjoy being a part of Reach and are loved by the team. I have seen so many Reach employees who have transformed as people and professionals over the past (almost) five years.
