I recently read a blog by Alan Nichol from #Rasa about our common reliance on the "prompt+pray" method to manage hallucinations in LLMs, a significant reliability issue when deployed in production. The key challenge with LLM reliability is their non-deterministic nature—they are essentially creative machines that often produce inaccurate outputs for tasks requiring deterministic results. E.g. consider an LLM incorrectly fetching your flight PNR. Simply adjusting the prompts doesn't reliably correct such errors. Agentic frameworks are designed to tackle this by blending the creative capabilities of LLMs with specific deterministic tools for each task. Rasa has introduced the CALM framework in their paper "Task-Oriented Dialogue with In-Context Learning." I haven't yet implemented it in practice, but I'm eager to see how it compares to my current setups with LangChain and CrewAI agents. A special shoutout to Daksh Varshneya, a familiar name among the paper's authors.
