📢 ‼️ Big news, Maine friends! The Maine Department of Labor sent out an update about Maine PFML today. The online portal for employers will open January 6th. At that time employers will be able to register their business (per each FEIN) and designate their payroll providers. It's important that all employers do this process as soon as they are able to ensure compliance with the new law. Still working on your PFML plan? We can help! ☃️ Hard to think that the new year is just a few short weeks away! Employers are often tasked with a lot at the end of the year, and 2024 is no different. One of the updates Maine employers are preparing for in 2025, in addition to the Maine PFML, is a minimum wage increase. For the state, the basic minimum wage is increasing from $14.15 per hour to $14.65. For employers in Portland and Rockland it's going up to $15.50. If you have employees working in those cities, now is the time to look at their wages and see what updates are necessary. Need help getting ready for 2025? We're here to help! 📢📢📢 Since April, employers, HR professionals, and legal teams have been reviewing and preparing for the FLSA salary threshold increases imposed by the US Department of Labor. Last Friday, November 15th, a Texas Federal Court struck those down. What does that mean for employers? It means employers who were working on increasing salaries and reviewing their employees for exemption status can pause and regroup. Experts suspect the DOL will appeal, but advise that it's unlikely the appeal will make it past the incoming Republican administration. In Maine the minimum salary for exempt employees will still be changing in January 2025, but the increase is significantly lower than the federal one proposed. Maine will be $845.21 per week, or $43,951 per year. Did your team already start making increases and changes? Don't worry, you're far from alone. Range Culture Co. is here to support you through the untangling process! Contact us today to see how we can help: hello@rangecultureco.com

🌎 💻 Does your team offer remote work? Let us know where HQ is and where you are in the comments! Since 2020, we've seen employees spread out all over the country and even the globe. Remote work can be a great tool to support your employees' personal needs, and it can attract more qualified candidates without regional restrictions. There are so many benefits to allowing your teams to work from the places that make the most sense for them! When considering if adding or keeping remote work is right for your team, we at Range encourage you to review the employee's state's laws. It's important for employers to know the laws and regulations in the states their employees are actually working, not necessarily the state in which the employer is based. Don't fret! Your friends at Range Culture Co. are here to help you navigate the process and support your employees in the best ways possible. Maine's paid family and medical leave is coming! Is your organization ready for the change? Reach out today for assistance in getting your team set up for success. hello@rangecultureco.com
In Maine, we take care of each other. It's a new law that applies to all businesses with Maine based employees. It provides workers up to 12 weeks of paid time off for medical, family, military, or safe leave. Starting January 1, 2025, employers and employees will split a 1% premium to fund the program. For businesses with fewer than 15 employees, the total premium will be 0.5% of wages. Maineʼs Paid Family & Medical Leave: Itʼs how we care. Itʼs who we are.
